"Beginning June 28, 2011, all cribs manufactured and sold (including resale) must comply with new and improved federal safety standards. The new rules, which apply to full-size and non full-size cribs, prohibit the manufacture or sale of traditional drop-side rail cribs, strengthen crib slats and mattress supports, improve the quality of hardware and require more rigorous testing.

After that date, it will be illegal to manufacture, sell, contract to sell or resell, lease, sublet, offer, provide for use, or otherwise place in the stream of commerce a crib that does not comply with the CPSC’s new standards for full-size and non-full-size cribs. This includes manufacturers, retail stores, Internet retailers, resale shops, auction sites and consumers."

It seems like this hard and fast cutoff date is going to lead to so much waste! I didn't notice any stores having blowout sales to empty their stock. Basically, on the evening of 6/27, all stores, manufacturers, etc, had to dump/destroy their current, non-compliant stock. And it also means that none of us can sell or donate our current cribs when we are done with them. CPSC certainly has their work cut out for them, trying to enforce this...

Illegal to re-sell - wow! Imagine getting arrested for selling a crib on CL!

I wish they would make it illegal to re-sell expired car seats.
