Update:
Thank you to everyone for their P&PT. We ended up calling my mil and asking her to help and got through everything. We are home and baby Emma Cate is doing great. She nurses like a champ and is sleeping like a newborn!

I came home on BP meds and am really hoping that they are temporary like it sounds like so many people's are. Thank you again for the thoughts and posts.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Good News:

Baby Emma Catherine was born on Tuesday without difficulty. It was a great and fast labor and she was out a just several pushes, leaving me with just a small tear. She is doing great and nursing well.

The Bad News:

I have developed postpartum hypertension. It sucks. Right now even the meds aren't bringing down my blood pressure and I am a hormonal wreck. We ran out of childcare for the boys so DH is home with them and I am stuck in the hospital until it comes down. It doesn't help that I'm so worked up by it and probably makes things worse. If anyone has any spare prayers or positive thoughts that my bp comes down tonight so I can go home tomorrow, I would really appreciate it. I believe in the power of the BBB so I know this will work, right? ;)

Thank you! And if you have any experience with this, I'd love to hear about it.

Congratulations! Welcome baby Emma!!! I kept wondering each day of July when she'd arrive. I would be happy to help in any way I can. I'll start by praying for your condition, and I'll PM you to see if there's any way I can help in person if you're nearby...

Congratulation to having little Emma. PP&T for you all.

My MIL developed post partum hyper tension after she had DH 36 yrs. ago, she was 28. She says it's managable with medication (which she still takes today). She said it really only effected the number of children she had (DH was her second, and her last, but she had said she wanted 3 or 4 prior to developing the condition), and then way later when she decided to retire at 57 instead of 60 which I believe was her original plan.

Congratulations on your precious little one! Emma Catherine is a beautiful name!

So sorry you are going through this right now. I had a friend who had PP HTN and it was such an awful experience for her. Sending prayers that your BP will drop and you will get to go home for long-overdue baby snuggles at home!

Big PTs!!! My friend had the same problem after her first. It was really elevated, and she had to be watched closely, even after she went home. Now she is great, running half marathons and doing well. Her second pregnancy was much better on her.

Born Tue and it's Thurs? I had my girls at 35 weeks due to pre-e, so bp was high beforehand, but whereas delivering the babies normally brings BP down, mine continued to skyrocket after delivery. it was 200 something over something obnoxious the night before I was supposed to be sprung - I was on a crazy high dose already of labatalol (sp?) .... I actually signed out AMA because the hospital was so awful (they had the worst BF policies... it was seriously twilight zone, I needed OUT)

ANYWAY it looked really bad at first but it did go down over the next few weeks.

GOod luck to you!!!

Enjoy your new baby!!!

Oh I'm so sorry you're going through that. I had the same thing happen but the meds brought it down in a day or so. I continued take meds at home for 6 wks but they kept lowering my dosage and I'm ok now.

Congratulations on your baby daughter! Wishing you a fast recovery, I developed a post-partum hypertension out of the blue, they kept me in the hospital one extra day for observation (I had a c-section), and then I was put on the high blood pressure meds for a month. During the 6 week check up with the OB, my blood pressure was back to normal (which is in the low range, too). Hope it'll be the case with you too!
