DS1 loves Starfall ABCs, but isn't challenged anymore and is getting a bit bored with it. He's a bit young, but he seems eager to want to learn how to read. He can put basic sounds together and make out a word, such as 'cat' or 'hat'. I want to take this opportunity and run with it. What can I buy him (physical game, book, or Android app) that will help him? Are the Leapfrog books any good? He doesn't handle the mouse so well, so computer activities aren't good for him, unless they can be done on the iPad. Would love to hear your ideas!

DS1 loved all the Leapfrog letter and word dvds and we are also a big fan of the Bob Books.

With these two series he was reading on his own before he even started kindergarten.

At age 2, almost 3, I would not be in a rush to teach a child to read. At the same time, I do not think there is any harm in doing learning type activities if your DS shows an interest.

There were some great suggestions in this recent thread: http://windsorpeak.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=403683

If he's interested and you're willing to commit 15 or 20 minutes a day, The Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading is fabulous.
