DD is turning 8 and has her heart set on a spa/ pedicure sleepover.
We have plans for lavender/ floral pedicures but she also wants to do "facials."

I'm a bit freaked out by the girls putting stuff on their face... she knows no scrubs or toners but really wants to do a mud mask or something similar.

Any ideas? For moisturizing, I will probably just give them Cetaphil lotion with a drop of lavender essential oil or something very neutral. Or California Baby lotion.
Favors will be kid toe separators and fuzzy spa slippers, maybe lip balm. I am not very girly so this is all new to me!

What about making your own? It might be a nice project for the girls too--they can out them in canning jars or little containers and take them home. You could buy blank labels and let them design their own. You can make scrubs with sugar and olive oil. Bath salts can be made with epsom salt and essentail oils. Google "home spa products" or "make your own beauty products" and you'll probably find tons of recipes.

ETA: Here's a make-your-own lipbalm kit for kids:

I really like the Yes To Cucumbers mud mask. Natural and very very gentle. I wouldn't hesitate using it with 8 year olds. I don't think doing it one time will cause their face to melt off ;).

Thanks! I will look for the Yes to Cucumbers mask... Burt's Bees came up short. I was also considering a homemade oatmeal/ yogurt/ honey mask but DD thought it was not "mud" enough.

And I love the lipbalm idea and am considering the bath salts!!!
DD used that kit and said it was too messy but I think I can get beeswax at Michael's for the Martha Stewart one!

Thanks again!

We did a "faux" sleepover for DD1's 6th birthday that was a huge hit with all of the girls. I think I had rock star status with all the girls in her class that year!

We had four stations:

Facials - they loved the cut cucumbers for their eyes (plus it made for great pictures). We tested a few different products on DD1's sensitive skin in advance. She liked the Dove facial massager http://www.amazon.com/Dove-SkinVitalizer-Cleansing-Massager-Exfoliating/dp/B000MANVXG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311078099&sr=8-1
This Yes to Carrots Mask was also very gentle: http://www.amazon.com/Yes-Carrots-Softening-Facial-Ounce/dp/B001JI2GDQ/ref=sr_1_3?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1311078695&sr=1-3

Other ideas that you may want to incorporate
Decorate your own cupcake - several colors and plenty of sprinkles
Mani/Pedi - used dusting glitter to make it sparkly
Craft - decorate flip flops with jewels.

The girls also loved playing freeze dance. At the end of the party, we had some wind down time with a movie.

For the party favors, we had a nice canvas bag from Justice (major summer clearance find), the flip flops, knit head bands used during facials, pedicure kits (from Dollar Tree or Target $ section), microwave popcorn and a few other miscellaneous items I had picked up during the year.

I hope your DD has a wonderful birthday and party. :)

Check Ulta too if you have one nearby. I often see adorable kid's mani/pedi/lipbalm stuff in the clearance section, and these (http://www.parispresents.com/Ms_Manicure_s/37.htm) types of items for $1 or $2 each up by the registers
