Honestly, this doesn't surprise me at all. We have chihuahua and he is fiercely protective of the house and his family. They are bred to be very loyal to their family and generally not to like strangers/non-family people. Whenever anyone comes to the house, we have a process we go through to introduce him to them (I have to pick him up and the new person in the house pets him). Once you have been introduced he is ridiculously affectionate, but until then, forget about it. He will bark, growl and chase anyone who hasn't been introduced around the house and will not settle down until they leave. I don't think of him as an attack dog though, he can't do much damage. But he is a great alert dog, the whole neighborhood would hear it if someone tried to break into our house.

Hmmm...watching the video, that looks like it might be staged. The dog's tail is wagging. With most Chi's that means it is someone that they know.

I don't think it's staged because LAPD released the video. But I guess you never know!
