My watch has finally died on me, more or less. Even the place that I usually go to replace the battery has closed their shop. I will take it as a sign that I need a new watch. The problem is, I don't think I have ever bought a watch for myself (and I am in my 30s....) My mom bought me the last watch while she was in Europe and it lasted a long time.

Honestly, I don't quite know where to start or what brand is good. I like to have a watch that is functional and can be worn everyday, not so much decorative. I like watches that have minute marks so that you can tell the exact time. I also want the watch to have the date on it. I like the looks of these watches:
http://www.swissarmy.com/timepieces/Pages/SubCategory.aspx?category=vivante& I think it's the stainless steel look that I like. But I don't think I want to pay $300+ for a watch. I am looking for something in the $100 or less range but that is still reliable.

Thanks!
CC

I have been wearing Casio Baby Gs for years. My current one has a silver metal band. I never take it off and it has held well for three years. If I were to get a new one, I would get this one:

I love my bulova watch. It's a silver band similar to what you linked with a deep blue face. I bought it on good sale but it was $$, although I think a good watch is worth it. I wear it every day and have for the past 5 years and it still looks brand new. I also like Anne Klein watches which are much less money.

I love Fossil watches - got a rose gold boyfriend watch from hubby for last birthday and am planning to wear it everyday once we stop hanging out at the beach or pool with DD. They have a large selection of watches around 100.

I'm another person who's a sucker for Bulova. My second-to-last watch was a Bulova; it's similar to this one at Overstock:

My Fossil died and I'm not interested in replacing it with another Fossil.

If I were to get another wristwatch, what I really want is a Citizen EcoDrive ... maybe one like this: http://www.overstock.com/Jewelry-Watches/Citizen-Womens-Eco-Drive-Stainless-Steel-Quartz-Watch/5982534/product.html

I have this Wenger watch (http://www.wengerna.com/battalion-iii-diver-72328), which I believe was $175 new (DH bought it for me 4 yrs. ago), and often Costco carries this brand and they are about $100.

I am itching to buy a new watch too. I bought DH a Bulova a few years ago and it's a great watch.

Thanks everyone! The Bulova watch looks really nice. I don't know if I can buy it w/o seeing it in person. I will head over to Costco some time to check out some possibilities.

We have the exact same style. I would be over the moon if I got either a basic Rolex Datejust, or a Cartier tank watch!:)

Right now there are a couple Michael Kors watches at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale that I'm eyeing. I just might pull the trigger on this one:

Thank you so much for starting this thread! I was just thinking about starting to wear a watch again, and I ended up ordering this one:

late to the thread, but i recently got this watch:

http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-Womens-EW3124-58L-Eco-Drive-Two-Tone/dp/B000ZPMYN6/ref=sr_1_68?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1311705812&sr=1-68

I never thought I would like a two tone watch with a dark face, but goodness, i really love it. i think it looks so much better on a person than it does in the photos. i also love how it has the day in addition to the date!
