Has it ever been considered to let the original posters of a thread close that thread to more responses? Gymbofriends has this option and it seems to be used when a poster realizes they've opened a can of worms (e.g., posted something somewhat inflammatory). Only the OP (or I imagine a mod) can close the thread and the thread remains visible. Would this be an option for threads where the OP feels ganged up on or doesn't want any more advice? That way people could leave their original post but not feel that they were inviting more commentary on the issue. I can think of several instances where a true piling on happened and there were hurt feelings. Maybe there could be an option to close a thread but limitations on when that function can be used? Or would this just spawn threads to talk about what happened in the previous thread?
