I am having my first ever "gosh I miss Mervyns" post in the 2+ yrs. since they closed. I need crew socks for DD1 for school. No ankle socks, no character socks, no knee highs, and no sporty short socks. Mervyns had the BEST selection of socks.

We have pretty hard water so I want something that won't get stiff in the washer/dryer. My former go tos Trimfit, and Auro by Gold Toe from Target are no goes as they aren't crew socks.

Target carries these:
Hanes (http://www.target.com/Girls-Hanes-Label-6-pack-Cushion/dp/B004PI2WAY/ref=br_1_5?ie=UTF8&id=Girls%20Hanes%20Label%206-pack%20Cushion&node=491317011&searchSize=90&searchView=grid5&searchPage=1&sr=1-5&qid=1311721838&rh=&searchBinNameList=target_com_category-bin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_primary_color-bin%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin&searchRank=salesrank&frombrowse=1)
Fruit of the Loom (http://www.target.com/Girls-Fruit-Loom-White-Socks/dp/B003NGC5GA/ref=br_1_36?ie=UTF8&id=Girls%20Fruit%20Loom%20White%20Socks&node=491317011&searchView=grid5&searchSize=90&searchPage=1&searchNodeID=491317011&sr=1-36&searchRank=salesrank&frombrowse=1&qid=1311721838)

Kohls has these from Hanes (http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/kids/socksunderwear/girls416/socks/PRD~508794/Hanes+Classics+6pk+Crew+Socks.jsp), but they are 100% more than the Hanes sold at Target, but then all of the Hanes socks I have ever bought at Target have run really a size to 1/1/2 sizes too small so if these don't run small and fit better then maybe they are worth 100% more.

GAP doesn't make crew socks for girls, but they do for boys so these might work (http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=6222&vid=1&pid=270369), but reviews are saying they run small, but for girls this might not be a bad thing.

Nordstrom also doesn't make any for girls, but has these two:
organic cotton ones (http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/nordstrom-active-crew-socks-3-pack-kids/2997275?origin=category&resultback=752)
ribbed organic cotton ones (http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/nordstrom-organic-cotton-blend-crew-socks-3-pack-kids/2988065?origin=category&resultback=1089)

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I have access to almost every store under the sun except Dillards, and Lord & Taylor.

As far as Kohls is concerned, I don't think they are any different in quality compared to what you will find at Target or Walmart. Just way more expensive. As an aside, I recently purchased Gold Toe socks from Kohls and they sucked. They pilled and pulled (I didn't realize how much lycra they had in them). Oh, and the instructions literally said to turn them inside out and dry them on low. hello?

I have tried SO many socks for the boys and I have ultimately gone back to Hanes/Fruit of the Loom. The last batches of socks have not shrunk on me (bought at Target). It has happened to me in the past, so I do know what you are talking about.

Oh, and I posted in the Bargains Lounge about a good deal on Hanes socks at Walmart. I bought a 12pk of socks for 6.17$. They had crew, ankle etc sizes. I would imagine they would have something similar for girls. hth

Thank you Liz. We've always had good luck with Gold Toe socks. I do like Lycra in socks though because it keeps them softer esp. with the hardwater. The Hanes socks we bought at Target were baby size, and 4T-5T socks label said they were equal to size 7-8.5, but fit more like the 2-3 size socks from Circo.

We are starting with a pack of 10 Hanes crew socks (for boys). Honestly, that is all I've had luck finding as far as crew socks. They do say hanes on them, but on the bottom of the foot.

I should have mentioned that we have had good luck with Gold Toe socks for
DH, but the childrens style sold by Kohls were terrible. The socks literally shrank and were falling apart (with tons of threads pulled out) after just one wash. So I would avoid those particular socks. We have bought the Auro socks from Target and they were just fine.
