I really want to get DD a Asian doll for her 1st b-day coming up.

So, I've narrowed down my choices to these two:

Corolle Calin Yang Doll
http://www.amazon.com/Corolle-Premier-Calin-Yang-Doll/dp/B000HBTSF0
But, her eyes don't close

Or
Bitty baby
http://store.americangirl.com/agshop/html/item/id/183578/uid/95
but, this one doesn't have much hair

Which one should I get??

DD has the Calin Yang doll and she loves it. I think it's a great size for a 1yo. Sorry, but we don't have the bitty baby so I can't comment on that one.

I think the Bitty Baby is cuter, despite being bald. I've never held either one, but I'd try to get the one that's the most cuddly.

Bitty, I don't like the way the other one looks. Kind of stereotypical looking, maybe it's just me.

I saw these and thought that they are even cuter...

I don't think the eyes closing is a big deal to the kids. That Bitty baby just doesn't look very Asian to me. It looks more Hispanic. I also looked at the Corolle Yang, but I just couldn't get over her face. I'm sorry but it looks a little weird to me (ETA: I agree with HK about it looking too stereotypical, I think it's the eyes are really slanty and the face is super flat) and it looks like she's frowning.

I got DD the Corolle Les Dollies Licorice (http://www.mandysmoon.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=011&PROD=1306268794&PNAME=Corolle+Dolly+Licorice) instead:

I have this adorable picture of DD dressed just like her with the same hair (see attachment)

Then I got her an Asian baby boy doll when I was pregnant with DS so she could practice being a big sister:
Berenguer La Baby Nursery Asian Baby Doll-Blue (http://www.mandysmoon.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=011&PROD=1252625409&PNAME=Berenguer+La+Baby+Nursery+Asian+Baby+Doll+-+Blue):

DS has now appropriated the doll as his "baby" and carries it around everywhere. It's just the right size/softness for a one year old.

They make one in pink (http://www.mandysmoon.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=011&PROD=1252615695&PNAME=Berenguer+La+Baby+Nursery+Asian+Baby+Doll+-+Pink) too:

Oh, the Corolle Licorice is very cute!!
How old is you DD in the picture of her holding the Corolle Licorice doll?
Do you think it'll be too big for a 1 year old?

She was 19 months old in the picture but I gave it to her a few months earlier. I think it's the perfect size for a one year old. It's 14.5 inches but the body and arms/legs are all soft except for the face/hands. DH didn't like the "hooker shoes" and the colored hair, but overall I think it's really cute. If you want a toddler doll go with that one, but if you want a "baby" I would go with the Berenguer or something similar.

I just remembered another reason I don't like the Yang...the haircut reminds me of DS' first haircut that they botched because he wouldn't sit still. LOL!

Bitty Babies are too big and heavy for a one year old. My daughter has that Calin and loves her. She looks nothing like the doll (long blonde curls) but is just in love with her hair.

another vote for the calin.... i honestly LOVE yang. i bought her for myself after 12 years. yes-- TWELVE years. i discovered her when i worked in a doll store in college and have loved her since... i honestly think she is ADORABLE in person. i've never seen a picture that captures her sweetness. so, yeah-- yang :)

also- the calin size is PERFECT for a one year old. they are light they are snuggly (enough...yes, they have plastic, but my kid sleeps holding a sippy cup ?so i don't think that stuff bothers kids ;)) but mostly, they can be carried. that's key to a 1 year old i think.

and we just got bitty a few weeks ago. she is ADORABLE-- but my 3.5 year old doesn't even like to carry her for very long (just today we took her to the playground in a stroller...i held her much of the time rather than let my child "rest" her in the mulch)

have fun!

We have the Yang and I agree w/pp's that she's much cuter/sweeter in person. Also, the size and weight is perfect for that age. We also have a Berenguer Asian baby doll and she's beautiful, but hard, so not as snuggly.
