UPDATE- I wore the black & white skirt and the red wedges. I asked why DH doesn't like them and he said they're "too shiny". Duh, they're patent leather... whatever. Anyway, literally every single female under the age of 50 at the party commented on how much they like my shoes, how they love the red shoes with black & white outfits, etc. So I'm glad I wore them even though DH wasn't! :tongue5:

My friend's 40th Birthday party is this Saturday. It is a dinner at her mom's house. I have no idea how many people are invited, I don't really know most of her friends. She and I have been friends on and off since 8th grade but we live about an hour away from each other so we only see each other about 1-2 times per year.

I need to wear something I already have because buying more clothes is not in the budget right now. I've decided to wear this black top I have that I really like, but I can't decide on the skirt and shoes.

Do you like this:

Or this:

If I wear the first skirt, my shoe options are pretty limited to the black wedges shown in the middle. If I wear the second skirt, I can get more creative with the shoes. However, DH recently told me he does NOT like the red wedges - even though I really like them with the right outfit, I don't want either of us to feel uncomfortable since we don't know much about the party. Here are my shoe options:

(I'm sure hoping the photos work... here goes...)

I like skirt one better but the gray shoes better. Not much help there! But, skirt 2 is nice as well so that with the gray would be fine. Really, any of the cmbos would be great! Eta. Fwiw I like the red shoes a bunch. I get so many compliments when I wear my shiny red peep toe heels.

I like both, but prefer skirt 2. I would wear the red wedges, but any of them go well, I just like red shoes. :)

I like the second skirt combo better. I would wear whichever shoes you would be most comfortable in, if it were me, for a casual dinner party I'd wear the black shoes.

I like them both skirts, but would probably go with the second one. I am not huge on the grey shoes, I like the red ones best.

:yeahthat: I love the red shoes! I don't know that if this is the case with your DH, but mine would not like the red shoes because he would think that since there is no red in the clothes, "they don't match". Some guys are very fashion handicapped like that. I love the look of a little red with black & white.

I like them both (and your room color, lol) but I would go with skirt 2 just to be able to wear the red wedges. I *LOVE* red shoes! And those are really cute.

Skirt 2 with red wedges. The black/white/red combo is very chic.

I like the second combination and would wear the black shoes because 1) you won't worry about your DH's dislike of the red and 2) others may be dressed very casually (like I would) for a party at someone's house. Personally, I wouldn't wear the gray shoes with that outfit.

The shoe choice may not even matter if everyone takes their shoes off at her house, like most people do in my circle of friends.

Skirt 1 with the black shoes.

:yeahthat: Although I think either would look great! Nice shoes too.

Thanks for all the replies! Well, I guess I'll go with the second (b&w) skirt - the material on the first one is pretty dressy. I'd love to wear the red shoes- I'll see what reaction I get from DH... I honestly think he may have a bias against them being red patent leather maybe he thinks they look hoochie (although his mom actually wore a similar pair a few months ago and she is as far from hoochie as one could get!! lol!)

I am not surprised at all you got so many compliments on them!! You looked great! Sometimes you just can't listen to a DH. :p
