A co-worker asked me if I wanted to joining her in planking over a video conference. Um, excuse me?
Apparently it's all the rage. I felt old and way out of the loop! She is 10 years younger than me- maybe I am the token old person they wanted to involve in this stunt.
I googled it and I am still confused as to the purpose outside of just being silly!
And then I saw some news headline about planking today.

No, hadn't heard of it until googling it now.
It sounded to me like they were asking to you join in for a group yoga session or something! (The "plank" is a yoga pose.)

Yes, look on my FB page and check out the guy named David. He does it. He also used to do the rock thing (can't remember what its called) -- random piles of rocks.

I've heard of it but only because I watch way too much tv and they were discussing it on a couple talk shows.
I thought that was passe and now the thing to do is "eagle-ing" or some such where you perch like a bird on something. Apparently I read way too much on the internet since I haven't seen either of these done IRL around here.
eta: I first heard about it when someone died falling off a building (I think) in Australia (I think) a few months ago.

I've only heard of it because DH's teenaged cousin posted planking pics and videos a few months ago. I too am old and out of the loop!

Yes but I don't know where - maybe Facebook? I don't think I can blame this one on People. :p

Yes, but I still don't know what it is! I've noticed a couple articles on gawker.com about planking, but haven't bothered reading them.

Like you, I had no clue what it was until my 21 year old co-workers told me about it. I don't get it. Just another way for people to be foolish. I believe I read that there were people who were killed planking.

The new rage is "owling." You perch on things like, well, an owl.

Thanks. You'd think with DS's appreciation for owls I would have remember that.

I thought the new thing was "owling," but it may be regional :wink2:
ETA: didn't see PP's response saying the same thing. It's all lame, if you ask me.

Gosh, I thought I knew what it was but then looking at the responses I realize how out of the loop I am. I had no idea that this was a big fad--only know it as a yoga position.

I had to google it. Are you thinking of "balling" by any chance?
I votes Yes because I know planking as a way to cook fish. But reading the other responses, I'm guessing that isn't what you mean.
Ok, I just googled it.
AND, this is fun b/c????????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????
Sorry but it looks incredibly stupid. What is the point?

Today I saw a picture of - no kidding - Hugh Hefner planking. If memes can jump the shark, I think planking just about has.

Good grief, this makes me feel ancient (I'm 35!) - I have not the foggiest idea what any of these things are. I suppose I am going to have to go and google them, now :)

Nope, not balling. Though there was also something similar a few years back where people would pose in a faux-running position?

:yeahthat: But I thought that about flash mobs three years ago...still happening.
It's pretty harmless, unless you're an idiot. It's like flat Stanley, only with hipsters. ;)

It's fun because us old folks don't get it, I am sure.
Similarly, music these days is just noise.

No I had never heard of it, which honestly surprises me because I have a 24 yr. old sister who is up on all of this stupid stuff.
