We're in the midst of reno's and our dining room will be 16x12, crown moulding, hard wood floors.

Our table will be an ethan allen pedestal with black base, darkish top.

There's an 8ft french slider to the deck.

Its currently benjamin moore lenox tan; thinking something with a tinge of blue/gray/slate. WWYD?

Friends of ours have a blue/grey dining room and IIRC the color is BM Manatee.
Ours is Cherry Bing (red). It will be that way FOREVER. It took like 6 coats of paint, even after tinted primer, to get good, non-steaked covered.

IMO Blue/gray is a GORGEOUS color (a modern neutral that is also very sophisticated) but very difficult to get right. I've tried many times and what looks gray on the paint chip ends up looking like baby blue on the walls. So my advice is to go more gray than blue, and buy paint samples and paint a large board. The small paint chips are very deceiving.

I cannot give you a nice gray/blue because I still have not found one that works for me - I tried BM gray feather and BM half silver dollar and they are both more blue than gray. The latter is the one I currently have in my dining room and I am not happy with it.

Mine is a dark yellow - it's from BM but I'll have to ask DH the color.

That's beautiful. Can you share the name of that color?

Our last place had a blue dining room. Blue is not traditionally favored for dining rooms supposedly because it suppresses the appetite. Whatever. I really liked it. The room had a chair rail. The top half was painted buxton blue, which is a Benjamin Moore color. The bottom half was a navy blue. I thought it was a lovely, rich and elegant combination.

Our dining room is Blue Dragon by Benjamin Moore (http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/bluedragon). People told me a blue dining room was a mistake, but I :heartbeat: it! It's sort of a deep, vibrant wedgewood blue. Looks great with bright white trim and dark furniture.

:yeahthat: I have always wanted to paint a room a wedgewood blue/grey, but never found the right color. Let me know if you do!

We have chair rail in our dining room- the top half is painted BM Hawthone yellow and the bottom half (and all the trim) is a creamy white (the name is slipping my mind right now). We love the yellow and get lots of compliments on it. Its a bright, happy color, but elegant at the same time.

ETA- Just remembered the name of the creamy white paint- BM Acadia White. Great trim color.

I think mine is Sandstone Cove from Behr. We ended up using a full can so I don't have any left and we painted 6 yrs. ago so I don't really remember. I will however not recommend Behr paint, it doesn't spread easily and it was tacky when we finished. The trim is in Whisper from Dunn Edwards. We should've gone with Swiss Coffee because Whisper is kind of bright, but overall it looks nice. The Dunn Edwards is soo much nicer (but it is only available on the West Coast, and in the Southwest) quality wise.

L,

I love the reno that you are doing! How much natural light will the room get? I'm seeing that deep navy blues are becoming really popular but you need a lot of natural light. My mom just painted above her chair rail with a deep navy and it looks beautiful against the white molding.

Ours is a Behr orange color. I can't remember the name but it's a two word name and one of the words is Pumpkin, LOL. It's a deep harvest color and I love it. The living room is Behr Ripe Wheat and I think the two work nicely together.

I love the idea of a grey dining room. We have Behr Rhino, which is a light grey, in our bathroom and it's one of my favorite colors in our house. I think it would work well for a dining room.

Mine is called baked clay. Love it. It's kind of a terra cotta color.

I have a friend who painted her dining room a purple/gray color and it's very elegant and beautiful.

My dining room and kitchen are painted a dark purple. The dining room also has white wainscoting on the walls.

My kitchen is baked clay and we love it. It has been that way for about 5 years and I am still not tired of it at all.

My DR is a dark tan (Townhall Tan, SW) above the chair rail and a purple-ish-brown beneath (from Behr...I cannot recall the color name). It sounds odd, but it looks wonderful. All the trim is a creamy white (Dover White, SW). Getting it right was hard. I went through about 6 samples for the brown color and 10 for the tan. I think tans (look pink or fleshy- yuck) and greys (look blue) are hard. ITA with PP that you should buy the samples and test things out in large patches before doing the whole room. I always do this, but it is esp important when trying to pair two colors.

GL and share a pic when you are done!

Ours is Dry Sage by BM. It's really nice! Our previous color was Eucalyptus Leaf (or something similar) by BM but it was too dark.

We have a nice blue in our finished attic, I think it's called Nantucket Fog by BM.

Sherwin Williams tinsmith is a lovely gray blue we have in our guess bath. I agree that gray is tricky, definitely paint some sample swatches on the walls.

My dining room is black above the chair rail, cream below. It looks great without medium wood trim and floors.

BM Raspberry Truffle. I thought I'd tire of it after a few years, but I still love it and it works well with the white woodwork and dark furniture.

I love this color...if we move, I want to paint our bedroom this color, but I could see it in a dining room as well. The color is Benjamin Moore greyhound, though I also love the navy dining rooms I've seen with nice creamy white trim. Benjamin Moore's website showed the color in three types of light to show how the color could look different. I love it all three ways:

Direct sunlight

I now have a good list of colors to check out in person!

Boolady thanks for the pictures from the BM site showing the difference in various light, very helpful and reminds me I need to play w/ the BM website on my computer vs ipad!

I went to pottery barn today hoping to check their painted room samples but the one by us that's actually open today (blue laws) was too small to have sample rooms. Figures I was just in the other one Friday Night and didn't even THINK about paint colors.

We walked around Ethan Allen with a designer today and saw a few colors we liked, one of which was in a room with a huge picture window w/ tons of natural light.

We are picking colors for our expanded dining room, my moms main room/master bedroom and her new bathroom, though i know she wants something in the blue family. Another room which is currently yellow, but used to have a TON of light through our 6 ft slider, has been sealed up, no windows and no slider..it'll be the entrance to my moms new space. Its basically a spare room that leads to our main/1st floor bathroom, a storage closet and holds my bakers rack.

I will definitely post after pictures when all is said and done!! We're getting 2 more painting quotes this week (if anyone can recommend house painters in NNJ PM me!) and then we'll proceed from that point.
