View Full Version : Anyone know a lot about Barbie?

La had an interesting question today, and I can't find the answer.

There's Barbie. She's got several younger siblings: Skipper, Stacie, Todd, Kelly, and Chrissy.

I thought maybe the Heart Family grandparents were also Barbie's parents maybe, but it doesn't appear to be right, as Wiki says that the Heart Family were only neighbors, not family.

So here we have Barbie and her 5 siblings. Mom and Dad gotta be around somewhere, I would think, because Chrissy is marketed as a teeny baby.

Where are these children's parents?!?!

I looked at several sites, and they all said Skipper is a sister. There were Heart Family Cousins, but I don't remember any "big" cousins (ie, Barbie-sized vs Kelly-sized).

I used to have the Heart Family and their stuff. I didn't realize they were 'related' and in the Barbie world. Of course back in my day there was only Skipper. I guess Barbie's Mom/Dad remarried and added to the brood. ;)

Barbie's parents are gone. Clearly, that is why she turned to stripping and hooking to keep the dream house out of foreclosure and take care of her sisters. Maybe that Chrissy baby was born to Skipper? :wink2:

I do't recall any parents or grandparents for Barbie.

Like Barbie, Ken is named after one of Ruth Handler's children. Sadly, the real 'Ken' Handler died in 1994 of a brain tumor. In January 2009, the media reported on the publication of a book entitled Toy Monster: The Big, Bad World of Mattel by Jerry Oppenheimer. In the book, Oppenheimer claims that Ken Handler "grew up embarrassed and humiliated by having an anatomically incorrect boy doll named after him with no hint of genitalia."[9]

from wikipedia...so it looks like the doll was never intended to be her brother, but ken was barbie's brother in real life.
