View Full Version : Is play dough too young for a 6 yo boy?

First week of school and we have a birthday party. I don't know the kid at all. Dd thinks she know which one he is and says he is quiet. That is all I have to go on.

About to run to Target (party is today) but I think I have one or two of those play dough kits (making hamburgers or cakes or something) in the gift closet. (or a kitchen/dish set or a cookie making set, but I assume those aren't good lol). I *might* have a board game, but not sure (can't check right now).

Anyway, is a playdough set still okay at 6, or too young? Not a huge deal for me to go to Target and get something else, just thought I'd do the playdough if it is acceptable!
TIA!

My six year old daughter loves playdough, she picked out the cake making set at Target for one of her gifts. Both she and my 4 yo enjoy it.

Not at all too young! Both DDs have been playing with playdoh for many many years. (maybe since 3yrs old)

I think it depends on the 6 year old. I'd play it safe and go with a lego kit or something similar.

Thanks!
I guess I should have said that my girls do still play with play dough at 5.5, but would you give a playdough kit to a 6 yo boy you didn't know anything about?

I would not. I agree with the lego suggestion. Bey blades are a favorite right now in our area.

My 7yo still likes to play with playdoh at home, BUT I wouldn't give it as a bday gift to a 6yo. I think you should pick something else out. I agree with the lego recommendation.

:yeahthat: My 9yo still asks for Lego sets. He'd have no problem getting one at a party but I'm not sure he's the norm. Love buying board games for kids. I'd get Sorry or Junior Labyrinth.

I've also found that Jenga is a big hit with that age group.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will probably do a board game, but I will also check out the lego sets!

Went to Target, got a Lego set. Accosted a mom with a 6 yo boy in the aisle and asked if it was acceptable, she said yes. :)

Thanks for the advice!

DS is 6.5 and he will do play dough occasionally, but lego gets way more play.

Good for asking. I do that when have to get a girl gift.
