This JCPenney t-shirt for girls 7-16 says:
"Hi, I'm too pretty do to homework so my brother has to do it for me"

Presumably, that is supposed to be followed by a mindless giggle, "tee hee."

AAAAAARGH!

Really, is there no one in the JCPenney supply chain who found this offensive - the person who designed it, the clothing buyer, their manager, sales floor reps - and surely there aren't parents out there buying this for their incredibly impressionable 7 year olds - or 15 year olds?

Well, now I know where not to go back to school shopping.

There was a pretty good blog post about that shirt, and other items, today.

"JC Penney has issued a statement promising to stop the sales of the sexist t-shirt:
We agree that the “Too pretty” t-shirt does not deliver an appropriate message, and we have immediately discontinued its sale. Our merchandise is intended to appeal to a broad customer base, not to offend them. We would like to apologize for any concern we may have caused and assure you that we are taking action to ensure that we continue to uphold the integrity of our merchandise that [our customers] have come to expect."

that shirt... OMG. i just bought my child the pinkest barbie bike on earth (it was the one on sale ;)), but that shirt? there is some serious stupid going on at JCPENNY

i think them rationalizing that they try and appeal to a "wide customer base" or whatever is just crummy. it's like saying "we aren't against girls, our wide customer base is-- we know it's kinda wrong, but you gotta give people what they want"-- why would you play to THAT? disgusting :(

And the "If your single, so am I" shirt...
Do they even realize the grammar mistake?

(That actually might be fun...)

I think it is funny that you noticed the grammar mistake. I am too busy being appalled that they would make something that says that in children's sizes.

I hate shirts like that and it's irritating that JCP didn't have the sense to pull that shirt out of their stores until ppl complained about it. They should have seen that from a mile away and whichever buyer bought that shirt for the store to sell should lose their job from totally dropping the ball!

What gets me though is that ppl seem to be ok with the high # of dumb/gross boys tops than the occasional dumb girl top. There are so many boys shirts that make boys out to be a dumb losers. I don't get why they make shirts like this and who the heck would want to buy them. Oh and don't get me started on my abercrombie and fitch racist tops rant...

Given how quickly JCP immediately issued an apology and pulled the shirts from the stores, once the press got wind of this of course, I'd imagine someone was fired for approving the lineup. :banghead:

Boys' clothes in general is a big rant for me!
