Other than sending in cupcakes for the class...have you guys done anything particularly cute or clever for your child's birthday at school?
My kiddo is in Kindy and turns six next week. I want to do something special for him.

ideas?

Our school does not allow any birthday celebrations in the classroom.

Rice Krispie treats are always a huge hit. They are special enough on their own IMO!

Last year a friend brought donuts. We do individual pkgs of jello.

I have done soy ice cream sandwiches. I have also done homemade butterscotch brownies.

Our school does not permit sweet treats (or any other thing!) for birthday celebrations. They encourage the child to bring in a book to dedicate to the class that includes a picture and a message. I love that tradition!

No treats at our school either, the birthday child has their first name on the electronic billboard for the day and gets a pencil from the principal.

I'd check on the school policy first.

Our teacher allows treats but they have to be individually wrapped and then taken home so each child can ask his/her parents before eating.

My DD turns 6 at the end of the month. I was thinking of doing little goody bags. Maybe I'll just put a little rice krispie in there with some stickers or something.

Rice crispies or a cookie are waaaaay easier to eat, than a cupcake.

I always go to school and join her for lunch. She seems to really enjoy that and I do too.

Our school prefers non-food items, such as stickers, erasers, pencils, etc. In the past, I've gotten stuff from the $1 section at Target, like a plush flower, dry erase board, or glow sticks.

We have a food-treat-free birthday rule at our school too.

So parents would generally send home a bag-o-crap.

I send home pencils for DD's birthday. 4/$1 at the teacher supply store, and even cheaper the more you buy!

If it's still warm in your area, you can do popsicles. They were served often last year since that's an easy treat for an egg-free classroom. (due to DD1's egg allergy.)
