I love the idea of getting a wooden bassinet/wooden rocker bassinet like olden times (love the look). Besides it occupying more space at home, what are its disadvantages compared to a battery operated/electric plugged in swing (like fisher price papasan or graco swings??) Did anyone have it? What did you use it for? for how long? was it tiring to make it swing by yourself? ty

what i like looks like this--

My DD would only sleep in the swing for the first 6 weeks of life. She slept in it all night, every night. Without that swing, I would never have slept. So the major disadvantage I see to the very adorable rocking bassinet is that I would have to rock it, instead of sleeping while my baby rocked in it.

Also, DD liked to sit in the swing later as well and play with the mobile above it. That was the only way I could go to the bathroom by myself for several months. I don't get to go to the bathroom by myself anymore (DD is very interested in the potty, and must watch everyone as they use it right now) so I treasure those memories of being in the bathroom by myself.

yes I can agree to all you said. My DD slept a lot early on in swing too, and loved playing in it later, it also had some songs etc.. but since then we got rid of the swing. now its time for our 2nd DC and I was tempted to get the beautiful rocker, but I will be practical and get a normal swing, which swings when I sleep if needed...
