View Full Version : What historical figure (or from what time pd.) could she dress up as in this dress?

My 8yo DD received this dress as a gift, and she wants to get some black patent leather shoes and white tights to go along with it to use as a Halloween costume. But we don't know exactly what she would be! She loves history and has had a few ideas of historical costumes in the past (Civil War nurse, old-fashioned teacher) but I don't think any of them really go with this particular dress. We think there must be some sort of hat or other accessories we could buy that would make it a complete costume, but I don't know enough about dresses through the ages to know exactly what it could be. Someone from "Little Women?" A colonial girl? I have no idea. I guess I need to brush up on my historical fashion trends!

TIA for any ideas!

It looks kind of turn of the 1900ish to me. I think that style lasted awhile though. Is she blonde? Could she be Shirley Temple? Although I don't know what else she could do to make that costume.

looks a bit like the ag samantha's dress to me - could she borrow a samantha and be her?

Any time period. Women and girls were wearing dresses like this from the 1400s on.

How about someone from the American Revolution? or maybe a queen - this looks like Mary, Queen of Scotts, to me.

Hmmm... thinking of great old stories and not coming up with a lot because I'm in hurry mode. Will add later.

:yeahthat:

This is immediately what I thought of when I saw that dress.

Its not historical but the first thing I thought of was a caroler. Perhaps get a little shawl or something. Historically though, not sure. I liked the Shirley Temple idea.

I think you could get a bonnet and go as one of the characters from Little Women, maybe with some laceup booties.

Love the ideas! Thanks so much, ladies!!! She has dark brown wavy hair, in a long bob (so no Shirley Temple....). Where in the world could I get a bonnet? Etsy, I guess??!

Maybe Laura Ingalls Wilder from the Little House books?

That's what I thought, too!

Or an American Girl doll.

I don't even have a girl and the first thought was, one of those american girl dolls.
