I thought it would be fun to post pics of our favorite outfits! That way we all encourage each other to dress nicer :) and we also have a place to get ideas.

Who's in?

Not sure on a Mac. On a PC, right click on a web-based picture (picasa, shutterfly, etc.), select copy and then paste it here.

Fun! I'm totally in! Arivecchi, love all your outfits especially the last one. You totally rock that cape...I would never have given it a second glance on the rack because it looks so big/shapeless in the catalog picture, but it looks totally awesome on you! And I love those Ferragamo boots!

I started a similar thread a few weeks ago:
http://windsorpeak.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=405841
with some of my fave outfits, and ms pacman and twowhat posted some pics of their outfits as well, but not that many people played so I'm glad you're posting a new one! I am dying to see other peoples pics!

Here is how I post a pic in the post (I use Picasa so it might be different with other websites):
1. Your photo must be uploaded to a website album like Picasa, Flickr, etc.
2. Go to the picture in the website album
3. On the right, under Tags, there is something that says Link to this photo--click on that
4. Click on Select Size, and change from Thumbnail to Medium-400 or Small (otherwise it's too tiny)
5. Click Image Only--no link if you don't want the photo to be clickable back to your Picasa album (like if it's under your real name)
6. Copy the link under Embed Image (not the one under Link). Make sure you copy the whole link (it's pretty long). It should end in .JPG, not feat=directlink. 7. Click on the yellow mountain icon at the top of where you post reply to thread.
8. Paste the .JPG link you just copied.
9. The photo should appear in the post!

If you don't have a Picasa or other online album, you can post pics but you have to do it as an attachment. Below the place to post replies, there are Additional Options. Click on Manage attachments and you can either click browse and upload a pic from your computer, or upload from a URL (but it won't show in the main body of the post).

Hope that helps! Now no one has an excuse that they can't post pics!

Here are some more of my faves from the last couple months since I joined YouLookFab and started trying to pay attention to what I wear and dress nicer. About half of these items are stuff I had in my closet but never wore because I didn't want to dress up (I preferred to wear clogs instead of heels). Also a lot of things didn't fit right anymore after having kids. And a lot of it is new things I bought recently to overhaul my wardrobe, because I got sick of patients always saying I look so young at work. I'm having a lot of fun, plus I think I look more professional and polished and get more respect at work now which is important. I can't tell you how nice it is to be hearing "You look great, what a nice outfit!" instead of "Are you sure you're old enough to be doing this?" all the time. It's so worth it to dress up a little!

Enjoy! And please post your pics too!!!

ETA: MaryMoo86, love those outfits! Especially the blue polka dot top and yellow skirt! That is so cool how you can post the outfit by itself.

I will keep taking pics of outfits and posting. I have just tried to link some of the ones I have available. Hope more peeps join us. Elektra and twinfoxes - I'm looking at you!

Arivecchi, I just love your Anthro cape, looks so cozy! I've been thinking about getting a cape for fall, if I can find the right one. I think a sweater cape might be nice b/c it's drapier than a "coat-like" cape.

DrSally
09-15-2011, 03:24 PM
Marymoo86, love the navy and mustard combo. Is that navy polka dot top from J Crew? That's something I'm wanting to try out this fall. The blouse on the last outfit is also really cute!

Arivecchi, that cape is so awesome. OK, I'm going to figure out how to post pics (I've successfully done it once, and it was a long process).

GP, I love that last photo especially. And that big kind of patchworkish bag is cool.

DrSally
09-15-2011, 03:26 PM
GP, you look great! I still love those T-strap pumps and the LC boots are awesome on you. I would never think you look to young to be a doctor (is that what you are?)

I would love to play along, but I do not have a full length mirror in this house yet! Plus I have no new clothes this season yet anyway! (Saving that for celebrating when I get that elusive part time job)

But, I am enjoying seeing you all's picks, ESPECIALLY your to-die-for boots, Arivecchi and Goldenpig.

Arrivecchi, I am hoping you will be my personal e-shopper when I do get a job especially since you know what I look like! ;)

I love the pictures! What great inspiration! I am not only jealous of your awesome cooler weather outfits/boots/shoes, but also your cooler temps! I ended up getting a pair of 7 for Mankind jeans a week or so ago but haven't even tried them on yet because it is soooooo hot here (highs in the upper 90s). I also love the cape A as well as your outfit yesterday.

marymoo - what website are you using to pin the outfits? I have been meaning to bookmark it.

I have decided a cape is going to be my brilliant maternity coat solution this fall/winter.

I :heartbeat: this thread, but not sure I have anything to contribute. Maybe if I get off the couch and take a shower I will consequently get dressed and take a pic!

Love the photos! I'm sick today and wearing yoga pants, so my contribution will have to wait! Though... I always think I look better in person than what a camera catches, so I don't know if I'll post. It might depress me on a day that I think I look great, LOL!

That is so funny b/c it looked like something I had seen at ON, but was wondering if JCrew had a version. It's so funny when they do total copies of JCrew, boden, etc. stuff.

And I was just telling arivecchi that I think I need some new flare jeans too like the ones in your last pic- they look great. Love all the stuff you posted too.
Goldenpig- the back of that coat is so cool!
Ms.pacman- you are FRICKIN hilarious with your LV spotting in the background of arivecchi's pic! If I had a LV bag I would hide it somewhere like a where's Waldo for you to find! :hysterical:
(btw- my brother had dinner with Yves Carcelle a few weeks ago. I had no clue who that was but I'm sure you do!)
Nothing new here except I somehow found myself inside Anthropologie after running an errand earlier tonight, and picked up the made-famous-by-arivecchi cape. :)

Wow, thanks! The jeans were Adriano Goldschmied, and I just grabbed them in the store to try on with the sweater because they looked similar to a an AG pair I have at home. I liked them too though. They were high waisted- I can't remember the exact style name though. "Skinny" something, which unfortunately doesn't really narrow it down!

Scriptkitten, are you a model? you exude that persona in your pics -love your trendsetting outfits!

elektra, I love the shades, cape & jeans.

as for myself, it's been in the 90s+ here and it still feels like the summertime even though my DS has been in school for just over a month. I haven't purchased any fall-specific items for myself - I might have to skip that b/c the weather here hasn't made them a necessary part of my wardrobe. I see a lot of other moms in my current town still wearing their sandals, tank tops, etc. and feel like I'm out of place if I have the urge to wear something w/ a more autumn look.

I totally envy your favorite outfits!

Ms.pacman- you are FRICKIN hilarious with your LV spotting in the background of arivecchi's pic! If I had a LV bag I would hide it somewhere like a where's Waldo for you to find! :hysterical:

LOL! i guess i just am always looking at purses. sometimes i point out other people's bags when we're out shopping. i love it when i spy someone with a Birkin. DH thinks i'm nuts...

i finally got the courage to post a pic. still not happy with it, i have 30 lbs of preg wt to lose, and i don't really know how to deal with dressing nice with ginormous nursing boobs (i currently SAH and mostly just wear nursing tanks with a maternity top thrown on).

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6161/6159586671_4c5e535bc0_z.jpg

i bought this dress at Banana Republic several years ago..bc it was $10.97 and original price was $120. It was several sizes too big at the time but i bought it anyway, bc the deal was too good to pass up! :) Now it actually fits somewhat, so i guess i can actually wear it. LOL. Too bad the material makes it too formal-looking though for more casual, every day use. Anyway, I love black dresses, i could have ten of them. :)

shoes are Beautifeel (so comfy, the only way i can wear heels!) and purse, as you may have guessed is LV...vernis Malibu Street in Perle

i really can't wait to get into the fall stuff (sweaters, capes, etc), but it's still in the 90s here, so that'll have to wait!

Thanks guys. :yay:
And keep posting pics of your outfits pretty please. :) I have no eye for picking stuff off the rack. I have to see it on someone to have any idea how it will look. I am getting better at knowing what won't work for me personally.... sometimes. I am also not great at picking separate pieces that will all go together in the end.
It's fun to see how real people do it.

Elektra...your pictures look like they belong in a magazine. Not just the way you are styled (and the fact that you are built like like a model...but even the way you and the clothes are juxtaposed against the background. The colors are perfect. You in the colorful dress on the colorful carpet. You in the green poncho against the yellow wall...with the added touch of the brown handbag on the wooden cube.

This is such a fun thread. I love getting a sense of everyone's style. I'll get around to taking some pictures of myself eventually. I seems that most of the pictures I have are me in a tank top and shorts...generally taken during a day at a theme park...with post-rollercoaster and log flume hair.

I'm far too lazy to take a picture and upload it. Is there an easy way to get it off the phone and straight to the thread?

I did a little shopping at Nordstrom and H&M today. I bought a cute cape. It has a little belt. DH liked the belted ones but now I'm thinking I should have gone beltless. I also got a sweater dress, some tights, and a wrap dress.

ETA: It's 95 degrees here right now. It was pretty fun buying winter clothes when it's this hot.

arivecchi- all your outfits look like they could be in the same fashion show- I just love what you put together. I need a pair of flared jeans, have tried on two pairs that I love in the past few months but I would have to hem both as they were just waaaay long, and then I lose the coolest part of the flare! Whats up with that!I found a pair today and they are long, but I've resigned to wear them with my chunkiest shoes/boots (since I don't wear heels). They fit SO well that I didn't want to pass them up! (At TJMaxx -- Nine West Vintage America mid-rise flare)

Thank you ladies! I :heartbeat: it, too. If anybody is interested it's a Nev jacket by Mackage. It is Gunmetal (brown gray) lamb leather. Here are some pics of a mustard colored blazer I bought from Anthropologie. I wore it two days in a row, on Sunday with the family and then to work yesterday. It was fun to dress it both ways.

"Mom on the Go": Really comfy and it made my weekend outfit look a lot dressier than what it was, which was basically a T shirt and jeans. (Yay for machine washable outfits!)

Work: I was experimenting with pattern mixing with the work outfit (they had paired the blouse and skirt in the Anthro catalog), but toned down the pattern mixing a little bit by breaking it up with the blazer and nude heels. I admit it's a little crazy looking and not everyone's cup of tea, but it was fun to try a new look!

Arivecchi, believe me, I was in a serious style rut and had not bought any clothes for myself (other than maternity clothes) for at least the past 5 years! And I always wore my clothes in the same combinations or matchy-matchy sets. Then I joined YouLookFab after Dr. Sally mentioned it recently, and I've been having fun trying new things and revamping my wardrobe. Look at all these brand new looks I have experimented with in the last couple months:

pattern mixing
monochromatic head to toe look
polka dots
belts
scarves (I didn't own a single belt or scarf!)
pencil skirts
skirts with boots
skinny jeans
shirt dress
faux shearling vest
pussy bow tie neck blouses
wearing jewelry more often
wearing lipstick more often
trouser shorts and tights
animal print
dramatic trench coats (ruffled black and red corset)
dressing down evening dresses to wear during the day
denim jacket
long graphic T
layering with long cardigans or colorful blazers
wearing high heels (high heel suede sandals and leopard pumps)

Can you believe I had never tried any of those looks before? I am trying to push the boundaries of my usual comfort level and keep trying new things so I can figure out what works for me and what my evolving "style" is. I'm having a blast!

Aw Vclute (and twowhat? and all the others who said they are too chicken to post), I'm sorry you're feeling that way. It's not a competition, we're just trying to have fun and share our ideas. I can see how it could be a little intimidating because the people that are posting first are just the ones who are most excited about/into fashion like Arivecchi and Scriptkitten & Elektra etc. I certainly wasn't into fashion a few months ago but I'm having fun with it now. I really have picked up the most just by seeing lots of pictures of what other people are wearing in the other forum and learning from them, so I'm just trying to pay it forward and share what I've learned. Please take it in that spirit...I'm not trying to be a showoff! :wink2: I'm very shy in real life!

If everyone that was reading this thread posted something, maybe we would all feel more comfortable sharing. So please everybody post, I really would love to see your pictures! I still have a lot to learn about fashion/style!

Top: J Crew long-sleeve tissue tee. This is YEARS old. $10
Cardi: Stem. It's hooded, cotton terry on the inside face, and I loved the double-breasted zipper detail. Nordie's clearance rack $30
Jeans: J Crew matchstick. $20!!

And yes. I do shoot lasers from my eyes. And yes, DH was slightly annoyed that I bought yet another black/grey clothing item but I promised him I'd wear brighly colored shirts underneath. I have no idea what shoes would look good with this. Tom's? LOL.

Here's one of me in the LE Canvas dress that I've been wearing all the time lately. It's just so easy to just throw on and doesn't really wrinkle. It's only $24 too! I'm just a simple CA girl who lives in flip flops pretty much year round. You won't really find any name brand anything in my closet!

This was in Mammoth a month ago

This is my favorite "sexy" dress! I wore it to my 10 year high school reunion 2 years ago. I couldn't go strapless and needed something loose around my stomach since I was just 10 weeks postpartum, but still wanted to look good. It's just some random dress from JC Penney!

I need some cardigans too and I was looking at the Boden and Land's End catalog last night and thinking how crazy the price differences were for simply cardigans. I bet TJ Maxx would be a good place to get cardis- as its nice to get something with some unusual details like the ruching (sp?) here without paying $80! Good choice!
I think I need some skinny belts to go with my theoretical new cardigans too.

As you can see, I'm not a skinny minnie, but I do like fashion. I try to pick clothes that flatter my figure, and aren't baggy and shapeless. I'm not saying I'm all that, but I wanted to post because I think some of the more meaty girls might think fashion's not for them. I need to pack two outfits for a weekend away. One for a dinner at a restaurant, one for a sort of fancy dinner on the beach (wedding type tables on the beach, orchestra playing, probably chilly, and no shoes)
Goldenpig, you have inspired me to look in my closet and play around!
I came up with a few new combos. I like the gray cardi one, not loving the other. What do you guys think?
Also not sure about shoes- I think my swashbuckler boots work better. (This would not for the beach night.)

Cardi- Kensi
Tank- LOFT
Belt- ?
Jeans- Citizens of Humanity
Boots- ?

Not liking this combo
Boots- Frye
Pants- Urban Outfitters
Shirt- Anthropologie

Twinfoxes, the pic is a little dark but the top looks lovely! And I totally agree that fashionable clothes work for every shape (said as someone who is small on top and has a gigantic @$$). LOL. And you know I :heartbeat: those shoes. I wore them all summer to work!

Elektra, first combo looks fab! Second combo, I think the proportions are off. Maybe try a different top?

Alright, so I FINALLY remembered to take a photo of myself, and I had to open a photobucket account. And upload it. So it was a process. But here I am! Excuse the toys, this is in our downstairs guest room, that the girls have annexed onto their playroom next door. (if the photo doesn't work, I give up!)

As you can see, I'm not a skinny minnie, but I do like fashion. I try to pick clothes that flatter my figure, and aren't baggy and shapeless. I'm not saying I'm all that, but I wanted to post because I think some of the more meaty girls might think fashion's not for them. It is!! :) The top is Calvin Klein, the jeans are DKNY, and the shoes are Ugg sandals, which you can't really see, so here they are.

TwinFoxes -- I agree, you don't have to be a skinny minnie to like fashion! FWIW, I'm a 16/18... (ETA: and you look great! I love all the photos in this thread. I can't believe how easy it is to dress "nice" and still be completely comfortable!)

It does tie around the middle. :) Thanks E, A, and Pastry! Now that I have photobucket set up, I'll try to post more. And I'll do it upstairs where there's more light (I had only a quick second to pose).

Nice to see you pastrygirl! I really like that color! Where did you get that sweater? It looks very comfy and I love the styling of the sweater on the bottom. Nice watch! Bling bling! :)

Thanks. I never thought to do a belt around the cardigan but I have been seeing that in pictures a lot lately.
And I agree, I need to just release my desire to wear that Anthro top. I want to like it- I got it on sale but it just never looks right with anything. And without some kind of belt it is a sack on me.

:yeahthat:I think because the top is slim and it hits you upper thigh, with the belt and boots it's a little pirate-y. Sexy pirate, though. :) How does it look without the belt, is it too baggy around the waist? I like all the pieces individually.

I love the first look though, and every other look you've posted. You could be a walking advertisement for those skinny jeans!!

Citymama, I would love to go shopping with you! You'll have to take me to an Athleta store so I can see what all the fuss is about! ;) I still think we should meet up together with the kids...are you game?

Pastrygirl, I love that sweater...the color looks gorgeous on you. As an apple, I'm a sucker for ruching myself...Fun watch too!

Latia, wow did you climb that whole mountain? And you look hot in that dress...only 10 weeks PP? You are so fit!

Twinfoxes--love that leaf print top! And the suede wedge sandals look yummy! They look so comfortable...are they comfy to walk in for long periods? I agree, fashion is for all shapes and sizes. That's why I like the YLF group...there's people of all ages, occupations, sizes & shapes posting pics of themselves and it's fashion for real life, not the runway. I love seeing everyone's diverse styles.

Elektra...love combo 1--so chic! I love the color of that red top too, but the boots in #2 might be a bit tall & wide on you though? That might be contributing to the "pirate-y" vibe. See how your legs look longer and slimmer in #1 because the boots fit better?

Here are a couple more pics (if you're sick of me posting I'll stop!):
H&M top, Ann Taylor skirt (from my super old interview suit), and Kate Spade scarf (bought 50% off from their sale). This is another new thing I'm trying...I've never worn scarves before, so I had to learn how to tie it. I'm planning to wear the red corset trench on top when it gets a bit cooler.

And here is the the Winter Tree shirtdress from Anthro that I posted about in another thread. (I'm becoming addicted to Anthro, thanks to arivecchi!). I swapped out the self-tie that came with it for a Linea Pelle belt, because I didn't want it to look like I was wearing a silk nightrobe, if you know what I mean! I got the belt from Zappos and I like it because it has this cool medallion braid in the back. DH calls it my "Wonder Woman belt":rotflmao:. I wore the dress with nude Easy spirit heels, and my favorite V-shaped necklace & Forever21 bronze cuff. (Although I just realized I need to buy a slip now, because it's unlined and is clinging to my butt). Here's another pic that I found on the web that shows the print a little better. I really like this dress because most of my maternity clothes were from Japanese Weekend, and I buy nearly all my kids' clothes at Tea Collection, and this dress reminds me of those brands. I tried stuff from the Tea women's line, but had to return the whole order...for some reason it didn't look good on me. So I was really happy to find this Anthro dress!

Thanks Twinfoxes...we were really lucky--the closet came like that when we bought the house, cedar boards and Elfa shelving and everything! I just finished a major purge and cleanup of my closet. There was all kinds of non-clothes stuff piled everywhere, and lots of maternity clothes or clothes that didn't fit right anymore post-kids. I packed a bunch of stuff up and donated the rest. So I feel like I can finally take pictures in there! The cats are so happy to have the ottoman back...they sleep in there all day! I can't tell you what a difference it makes having a closet where you can see everything and everything fits. I finally feel happy walking into my closet!

We rode the gondola to the top, so no need to climb any mountains! It was like 25 degrees cooler up there which is why there were still some unmelted patches of snow! And yes, I was just 10 weeks postpartum at my reunion and had just moved back to CA from VA the day before! It was a very hectic few days but I couldn't miss my reunion! The dress hid my belly pouch perfectly and showed my nursing boobs off well (they kept getting bigger as the night went on and I had my manual pump in my purse)!

Aww TxCat! Thanks! You're so nice...you make me blush! :love-retry: I caught the fashion bug after being inspired by Arivecchi, Scriptkitten, Elektra and all you other stylish BBB ladies, so I'm happy to finally be able to return the favor! You should see my before and after pics...quite a change! From REI fleeces and jungle mocs all the time to pushing my envelope with things like suede boots and shearling vests. And I went from wearing old maternity tops and mom jeans to actual dresses for date nights! So if I can do it, anyone can! I know I've bought a lot of clothes lately, but I hadn't bought anything for myself for many years prior to that. I try to buy most of my stuff on sale and at places like H&M & Gap. It just took me a long time to get over that anxiety about shopping/trying new clothes on. But now that I'm getting used to the "new me", it's so worth it!

goldenpig, I love you in the red fleece and jeans with your family! I love the dressed up look, but the casual look is the person I would feel more comfortable hanging out with.

Oh, no! I didn't mean to get anyone to stop posting! Really! I know it's not a competition! I'm just not feeling much like investing in myself right now (a more true statement than "I don't have the time" or "I don't have the money") but I LOVE looking at what you all put together! And I'll be more on my game once the weather cools down here a little. Still in the 80's today! Ugh! Not as fond of summer clothes as I am of fall/winter clothes...

Thanks!! The pink is part of the shirt, and that's probably as much pink as I've worn in the past 20 years or so. Seriously, it was a stretch for me, LOL. Pink is not on my agenda.

I wore the boots once. I am totally in love. I ran into a friend while wearing them and she stopped mid-sentence once she noticed them! "Hey how are you do - WHAT are those awesome shoes?!?" :ROTFLMAO:

love all the inspirational outfits! GP and OP, your outfits inspired me to stop by Anthropologie & I tried on some things - forgot to bring my camera though, and I tried on this dress: http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=22635494&catId=SHOPSALE-DRESSES2&pushId=SHOPSALE-DRESSES2&popId=SHOPSALE&navCount=30&color=049&isProduct=true&fromCategoryPage=true&templateType=D botanica dusk dress. I'm interested in trying to add some splash of different colors and patterns to my (outdated) wardrobe. What do you think about this dress? I liked the fit and it was super comfy when I wore it. I'm thinking about going back and purchasing it, but I'm not sure if the pattern is a bit much - maybe I'll take a picture of it while wearing it when I'm gutsy enough. ;)

And I definately wear a bra with the white top. Just a regular bra too and the straps don't show. A racerback bra would probably work best though.

love all the inspirational outfits! I'm thinking about going back and purchasing it, but I'm not sure if the pattern is a bit much - maybe I'll take a picture of it while wearing it when I'm gutsy enough. ;)

to everyone who has posted, you all look fabulous! I have a curvier pear-shaped body type (small shoulders, heavier bottom), so it was nice to see others with a similar body type post.

Brgnmom, that looks like a cute and comfy dress! I like the pattern and the ruching looks like it's nice and forgiving. How long was it on you? You should try posting a pic and let us see! The big question is, how did it make you feel when you had it on? Are you excited to wear it?

As part of this wardrobe revamping process, I've now learned to be much pickier about my clothes. Love it or leave it. I don't buy something unless it fits well and looks good on me and makes me feel totally fab (and is comfortable too). And I have no qualms about returning stuff if I take it home and then decide I don't like it anymore. If it's just sitting in my closet, like I don't want to immediately rip off the tags and wear it the next day, then I probably should just return it. And I did a ruthless purge of my old clothes...stuff that still fit but was outdated or didn't look so great on me (better on my pre-kids figure) or I just didn't feel so hot in or were duplicates that I never wore, that all ended up in the donate pile even if they were good quality/nice clothes. I'm trying to have fewer clothes but ones that I'm excited to wear, and come up with more creative combinations of those clothes, rather than having a bunch of clothes that are just okay but not great.

Elektra, I have to ask- has anyone ever told you that you remind them of Rachel Griffiths? I only know her from Brothers and Sisters (she plays Sarah Walker) and you totally remind me of her in that show!
http://pics.livejournal.com/lechaton17/pic/00017qfr/s640x480

Haha, no, but I guess I do kind of look like her in that pic a bit! (I only remember her somewhat psycho character from Six Feet Under.)
I do remember LarsMal reminding me of Rachel Griffiths actually, when she posted her pic way back when. :)

MontrealMum- love the cardigan. I need to find one that has the really wide sleeves I think- the drapey kind. (what is that called exactly?) It looks like the GH one might be kind of like that.

You can pull of the hat well too. I always feel silly in hats- like should I keep it on inside? take it off? And its usually so warm here anyway, it's not look you really need a hat anyway so I end up hot and feeling dumb with a hat on in 70 degree weather :tongue5:

Thanks guys :)

E, I'm not sure what to call drapey sleeves either, besides drapey, but Free People has a lot of similar looking stuff and they're often long (like mine is) which would look great on you. They're sold at Nordies and Piperlime. Garnet Hill has more long cardis for fall (it's my new obsession), just not the one that I have.

I'm not super skinny either and I'm glad to see people of all sizes posting. Keep them coming! I got to the point finally where I realized that I may or may not get back to the size I was pre-DS, but for my self esteem I need to dress the body I have, not the body I wish I had. You'd think that I might have absorbed that from WNTW which I used to watch religiously, but apparently, I didn't.

Hi GP and A,

thanks for your advice! I may make a morning trip to Anthropologie- I live about five miles away from one, so it's pretty tempting to go and try on the dress again. the medium was a little too loose around the hip area, so I'm going to try on the small and compare.

I ended up ordering two tops online though in the meantime - http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=21064498&catId=SHOPSALE-TOPS&pushId=SHOPSALE-TOPS&popId=SHOPSALE&navCount=18&color=055&isProduct=true&fromCategoryPage=true&templateType=D expanding horizons tank in navy (I tried on the lilac one in-store & loved the fit) & http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=20957452&catId=SHOPSALE-TOPS&pushId=SHOPSALE-TOPS&popId=SHOPSALE&navCount=18&color=049&isProduct=true&fromCategoryPage=true&templateType=D nape-tied tank in blue motif... can you tell that I adore the color blue? :p I'm thinking that I can pair either top w/ a deeper denim skirt and dark jeans. If I wear it w/ my denim skirt, I'll wear black knee-high boots & if I wear the top w/ my dark jeans (I just tried on my pre-preg. dark skinny jeans from AT& surprisingly found out that they fit now), I'll wear my clark ankle boots.

I don't have a full-length mirror at home (I gave my original one away during the moves & haven't purchased another one yet) - I tried stepping on a stool to see if I can take a picture using the mirror in my master bath, b/c I'm not tall enough. Lol! I'll see if I have better luck in the fitting room @ Anthropologie after DD's storytime.

thanks for inspiring me to step outside my comfort zone. ;)

thanks!! :) just got back & uploaded pics - I'd like to apologize in advance for the blur factor... I didn't use the flash on my camera & the lighting isn't great in the fitting rooms. I tried on the dress w/ a few cardigan tops that the SA recommended, but I'm not sure whether I'm in love - please let me know what you think.

I also stopped by the Urban Outfitters & ended up getting a charcoal gray light sweater that I can just wear over a camisole. in the pic, I'm wearing it over my baggy gap t-shirt and w/ my AT jeans & rockport slip-ons... yes, I need a wardrobe overhaul. lol!

Such great wardrobe advice! In the past few years I've really tried to cut down on that group of clothes in the back corner of my closet with tags on them. I almost kept a LE coat I bought because it was so cheap, but I just knew it'd end up back in that corner of shame. :)

brgnmom, it's hard for me to see the fit of the dress by itself in the last pic. I think it fits well, but I cannot really tell from the pic. How do you like the fit? Do you feel confident in it? Yay with the navy sweater. Nay with the pink sweater. I bet it looks nice but casual with a jean jacket. Where would you wear the dress to?

The gray sweater looks really good. Definitely keep that!

thanks, A! the gray sweater is super comfy and I can see myself getting a lot of use out of it.

The dress fits alright - I ended up getting the small and an xs in the cardigan. I feel like the dress may add width by the ruffles around the mid-section, looking at the pics. I have a favorite convertible strapless dress/skirt that I love wearing - you can dress it up/down. I may take a picture of that - the material is slimming and not bulky.

I'll ask my Dh about the dress too.

I know I haven't posted yet but I've been following this thread...I snapped a photo of my SAHM uniform (jeans, tank, cardi) and I will post it later after I am done schlepping the kids everywhere. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother when I spend most of my time in the car!!!

Hey brgnmom! I like the gray sweater. The dress looks nice too! Which cardigan did you get? I actually prefer the fuschia over the navy cardigan, but I agree with Arivecchi--I think a dark fitted denim jacket would be better. I got one at Gap. Or the mustard colored blazer that I got at Anthro would be better than a cardigan, I think. It was called So Saturated Blazer in Gold.

OK you fashionistas are giving such great advice that I dug through my closet again hoping to get some constructive criticism from those of you who are more fashion-minded.

I am sorely lacking in accessories and shoes. So I'll also take suggestions:)

I just bought the top. It fits me well and I had to get it because it's long in the torso and I have trouble finding stuff long enough without being an actual tunic.

Another one of my "I feel really comfy in this even though it's probably not fashionable".
Shirt: J Crew (from the outlet several years ago - Liberty fabric knock-off. It's cream with a tiny purple leaf pattern)
Tunic sweater: BR
Jeans: J Crew matchstick

I'm particularly interested in opinions on this dress. I've never worn it out in public. It's Marc Jacobs. I got it at NR YEARS ago for $100. Yes, it still has the tags on it LOL. I never would've tried it on but DH encouraged me to and I loved the way it fit. Not sure I love the way it looks though. Would you wear this? And to what sorts of events? The background of the dress is a very dark charcoal gray and the subtle paisley pattern is a muted gray-blue. It's 100% silk in some sort of very heavy twill-like knit.

Wow, ladies, you all are looking fab in this thread. This is my first chance to comment, but I've enjoyed following it. Of course, I always guessed arivecchi & elektra were stylin' mama's, but everyone here is inspirational.

GP, I *thought* that was you on YLF (I'm guilty of lurking on that site).

To the PP (brgnmom?) who posted the pic of the patterned Anthro dress: I have a couple of brightly patterned Boden dresses & love them. My solution to tone down the pattern is to pair with a solid cardi or jacket.

TwoWhat?: I like your layering outfits. Comfy is good. ;) And that dress is great-- wear it already! You could pair it with a lot of things. I think you could wear it in the day- dress it down with boots and cardi. Dress it up with pretty shoes. You could pair it with either a dark cardi for a monochrome look, or a contrasting color (like red or maybe yellow) would really pop and look fun. I think you should play around with it.

And finally:

I LOVE that hat. I was just thinking, I have to get something for weekend bad-hair days, when I need something to keep me from looking like an idiot when I run out to the store. Right now my only fallback is a Life is Good hat. Is your hat from that seller? Can you vouch for fit/quality?

Great pics today! This is keeping me totally inspired :)

@brgnmom - I think the dress is super gorgeous (both on you and online), but have you considered wearing it w/o a sweater at all? I think that it could look really nice with just a simple pendant necklace and some cute shoes. Just an alternative to the sweater look. Also, JCrew has a beautiful velvet blazer right now that might be fitted enough if you do want something over it. Schoolboy blazer (http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/blazersandvests/schoolboy/PRDOVR~51758/51758.jsp)

@Twoboos - your outfits are great! I am loving your ability to layer things - and that you have the slim figure to do so - I think you should definitely keep that up. And that black printed dress is gorgeous! I'd wear that out to dinner or drinks, or even in the daytime. I think it really depends on the type of shoes you pair with it as to how dressy it looks.

@larig - You have the most gorgeous hair ever! I have serious hair envy :) Come to Montreal and we can shop together ;)

@jent - the hat is from this seller: http://www.etsy.com/shop/piperandpaisley?ref=ss_profile It's the Engineer cap in tangerine linen in a small. I don't know if she has any of that particular style in stock, but they're all super cute. I find that the size is good for me even though my head is not particularly small because my hair is quite slippery and hats often slip off. This one stays on. The only complaint I have is that I didn't read the listing carefully and it's not lined. Some of her caps are, and some aren't. So, it's strictly a warmer weather one. Might have to get another ;) Other than that it's very well made and I love the color. I'm also considering one like this: http://www.etsy.com/listing/75537955/purple-linen-newsboy-hat-adult-size I've really gotten into hats lately since I've started wearing my hair shorter.

twowhat?: That dress is fabulous on you! Your husband was right. It really shows off your nice figure. Why are you not wearing it? Go on a date with him and wear that dress right away!!!

Since you asked for honest feedback, here goes (and please don't get upset with me--I'm using you as an example, but I'm not picking on you...this is advice I wanted to share with everyone really, based on what I've learned so far from others on my own "style journey", so I thought I'd pass it on...)--I think you are hiding your nice slim figure behind all these baggy gray and black clothes! I can tell from your pics that you are really pretty--but I think you would look even more fab if you wore more colors and clothes that are more fitted. You can still be comfy in more fitted clothes. I bought new long graphic T's and ruched tunic shirts from H&M for example, but they are more fitted. They're still really comfy and stretchy.

I think a lot of us hide behind loose clothes thinking that fitted clothes will be too tight and make us look fat, but really the big baggy clothes just add to the volume and appearance of being fat. Everyone has their areas that they want to conceal (mine is my tummy), but you just have to know how to dress for your body type. There's a lot of plus size and curvy women of all different shapes posting on YLF and they look great and they're not wearing baggy clothes. One of the feedback comments I have been consistently getting since I started posting there was that my clothes were too big for me and that I should size down. I keep reaching for a certain size that I think I am in my head (say medium instead of small, or 6 instead of 4) when I'm buying things. And when they make me return it for a smaller size, it usually does fit me better. It takes a while for your eyes to readjust to how clothes should fit and I'm still trying to train myself to buy what fits instead of looking at the size. Sometimes I'm even a size XS or size 2 depending on the brand, and sometimes I'm up to a size 10 at stores like H&M that tend to run small.

Take that polka dot top in your first picture. I bet if you tried on a size smaller it would still fit and would be less baggy. See how much slimmer you look in that fitted dress with the waist definition? And another suggestion I have for you would be to wear more belts. I didn't own a single belt before YLF and now I have a little collection of various widths and colors and wear them a lot. They really help create a slimmer waist. Try getting one that has elastic on the sides, it cinches the waist like a little girdle. You could wear belts with all three of the outfits you posted. In the first one I would go with a red one for a pop of color. In the second one, you could go with a braided black belt over that sweatshirt and you would look instantly skinnier. In the third one, you don't really need a belt, but you could add one for color/interest, like a bright citron belt or silver links or something. You also don't need to layer all the time. In that pic with the gray sweater over the green shirt, what does it look like if you wear just that bright green shirt by itself? Maybe with a red belt and skinny jeans? Shoes are another easy place to add color if you're not as comfortable wearing it yet...get a pair of red pumps (I have a pair of T-straps that I wear a lot) or even something daring like leopard print. Anyways, I think you look perfectly fine and pretty as you are, but if you wanted advice for how to bump it up to the next level, I'd say start trying more color, belts, and more form fitting clothes. Hope that helps!!! :waving4:

Not sure I love the way it looks though. Would you wear this? And to what sorts of events? The background of the dress is a very dark charcoal gray and the subtle paisley pattern is a muted gray-blue. It's 100% silk in some sort of very heavy twill-like knit.

I would absolutely wear that as an everyday outfit. Sure, it could be a date night dress, but I agree to pair with boots and go get in the carpool line! Unless I'm really wrong about the material it doesn't read "dressy" to me at all.

Twowhat, you look stunning in that dress! Wear it! I would wear it to dinner, a nice brunch, party, etc. It really makes you look slim and fabulous.

I agree with gp. Your other outfits are perfectly nice, but you should turn things up a few notches. I agree that fitted cardis and jackets would probably look great on you. I am a big belt fan too. I usually wear a belt when I wear a loose cardigan/sweate. Pair that with cool boots and your outfit will be instantly elevated. Try color too. I tend to love black and grey, but I am trying to be more colorful. Boden is a great place to get colorful clothes. Lastly, do you have a nice thrench coat? Bet you would look fabulous in one and you could just throw it on over your more casual outfits to add pizzazz.

Why don't you try wearing a skinny belt at your true waist with the first two outfits? Also, try adding eye popping accessories to those two outfits and see what you think.

Ok, I want to play. You all are inspiring me to look more critically and creatively at my closet.

This first pic is my typical work attire. All components courtesy of ATL. Shoes which you can't see were x-strap kitten heal slides in a brown croc pattern with a thin gold border to the straps.

I like the cardy because is is a rouched cap sleeve so it has interest but doesn't compete with the floral on the shirt. I am challenged by what other colors to pair with the camel pants. I have a bright/dark coral linen crop jacket that I've paired with the pants. And I have a denim jacket that I almost wore instead of the cardy but it didn't look right to me. The pants are such a strong camel color (closer to the color of the tshirt than it appears in the pic) that I feel it clashes with a bunch of tops in my wardrobe.

You're kind but you definitely mean TwoWhat, not me. ;) (I will admit I frequently double-take TW's postings thinking "I don't remember posting that!" LOL!)

And TwoWhat, another vote for that dress - awesome!

Here's today's selection. The pic is not so great for some reason, I must have been moving slightly when I took it.

Boden Stripey Tunic
Footless tights (no-name brand from TJMaxx jr dept)
Privo shoes - you can't tell but they have a cute pattern on the toe/back
Kate Spade bracelet, from SIL for my bday. Has yellow AND pink in it - I'm trying here!!

This is totally the kind of feedback I want! I agree that polka dot top looked a little baggy after I posted the pic. Unfortunately that was the smallest size available. I actually have a lot of trouble finding things that are small enough AND long enough. It's as if clothing makers think that the smaller you are, the shorter you are. Which I guess is generally true. I know what Stacy & Clinton would say: get things tailored. But that's not in my budget:) One thing I have definitely noticed (and maybe this is sort of a tip) - but most things will stretch after buying (if you're not shrinking stuff in the dryer) so often you HAVE to buy a size down in order for a piece of clothing to still look good on you after lots of wear.

I also completely agree with yours and arrivechi's color assessment. I need to get some tops like that fabulous colorful top that ms pacman posted (which I love), and wear those with my drab cardis:)

twowhat? - you look AWESOME in that dress! Take the tags off and wear it!

Thanks for all the feedback on the dress. I originally thought it was too...pin-up-y or something. Just wasn't sure I felt comfortable wearing it. I need boots.

And Arrivechi I am going to look into those Splendid tops. Woven tops just don't have enough give for me while wrangling with 2 preschoolers - I need stretchy knits that look more structured, I guess.

I love this thread - it's like a virtual mini-WNTW!

Re stretchy tops: try splendid, james perse, three dots, anthro. Also cute button-downs. Easy to look dressy and pulled together in those. I also love tunics when out and about with my kids.

Twooboos, that tunic looks great on you! It would be a disaster on me. I like how you styled it - simple and chic.

I just tried on some more capes...will post pics tonight!

pics, please! ;) your outfits have been truly inspiring. we're planning a trip back in a couple of months - would love to see you again IRL.

I actually did get the fuschia cardigan, but both you & A have made great points about the denim jacket being better. I love the mustard colored blazer on you!

Schoolboy blazer (http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/blazersandvests/schoolboy/PRDOVR~51758/51758.jsp)

thanks, MontrealMum! your suggestion of wearing the dress alone w/ accessories sounds great. I'll have to check out that blazer IRL. thank you!

thank you, Beth, w/ your advice on checking in w/ my Dh. I didn't get a chance to try the dress on in front of him last night b/c we went to a fundraiser event together, but this morning, I was able to try it on & he wants me to keep the dress. He likes the dress w/o a cardigan on top and just by itself. So it looks like I'll keep it - it is really comfy.

on another note, do you think that I'm being high maintenance by asking for advice from the fashionistas of this board? Sorry in advance if I come off like that - I'm not high maintenance IRL. My sister made that comment when I asked her for fashion advice after emailing her the same pics I showed you all. :(

TwoWhat, I l.o.v.e. your MJ dress! Definitely take off the tags & wear it out w/ your Dh or on a girls' night out type of event. I can definitely see it being dressed up w/ accessories (earrings or necklace, black heels or boots).

wendibird, I really like your work attire from ATL. Have you tried pairing a cream-colored top w/ your camel-colored pants? I have that same shade in a skirt version from ATL & find it hard to find tops to match sometimes, unless they are neutral (cream).

twoboos, I like how you wore your tunic w/ footless tights. It looks cute & comfy.

Hmmm, I don't have anything in cream for the fall weather, but I do have a cream cardy that's a chunkier cable, but will need to figure out what to layer under it. I've also seen a few catalog pics of gray paired with camel so maybe I'll give that a try.

Because Marshall's is next door and I stopped there first! :D I came away with a sweater cape ($39.99), pair of Lucky skinny jeans ($34.99), and a pair of wedge booties ($39.99). This was all within like 10mins. I will post eventually, have to meet the bus in a minute.

The sweater cape comes to a point in the front and has a cable accent and some fringe, along with a big neck but not a cowl if that make sense - and has toggles! I am getting all the looks into one, lol.

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6154/6176080275_33d9206b32_m.jpg
Hazel short sleeve cardigan

BR bootcut jeans
Frye clogs

the sweater has a belt but I almost never tie it. I usually just tie it in the back.

and today's:
http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6172/6176609002_9580539467_m.jpg

Cole Haan sandals (http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?searchCID=4016&cid=4016&vid=1&pid=862332&scid=862332002)
As you can see, I really like that t-shirt! Unfortunately, I don't love the 2nd cardigan because I think it's a bad color on me. I thought it would be more of a beige when I ordered it and it's really a pale ivory which I don't think works well with my pale skin tone. Maybe I should be wearing it with a pastel shirt? IDK. It doesn't look great with white either since it looks like I tried to match and failed miserably. I would have sent it back but I really like the style/cut of it.

The jeans have to go back. I can barely breathe. I need one size up. I can feel my hips being crushed! But I like them in theory. I know the chances of me finding these same jeans in another Marshall's is slim. I am also going to check online. (Lucky Brand Zoe Skinny.)

I love the boots. They are comfy and easy to walk in. I actually took a pic of the "must have" boots in this (last?) month's InStyle and couldn't find them - these are similar but aren't lace-up which I like SO much better. Oh, and they were $40 instead of $225. (White Mountain Idea in black.)

OK, here goes. I've been wanting to join in this thread but have picture-taking issues (no place to take properly lit full length photos in our new place). So, I dug through my photos and found one-- not truly a "favorite" outfit, but I like this pic b/c it's an example of when I first started branching out style-wise. Like goldenpig, I used to wear jeans, fleece, & Merrels ad nauseum, no matter the occasion. Most of my clothes were pretty baggy. In this pic I am doing lots of things that were new for me: 1. wearing a dress 2. wearing boots 3. wearing a jacket in a casual setting 4. layering a shirt under a dress.

A lot of new stuff posted--great!
Wendibird22, I love your hair! I would love to see you wear a pop color with the first outfit...maybe a teal or red colored shell instead of the brown shirt? And how about a chunky necklace? Camel is a great neutral...one of my favorites because it goes with everything! I pair it with autumn colors like pumpkin, olive & eggplant, as well as bright jewel colors like teal, red, cobalt, or raspberry. Cream and camel is a favorite of mine, and black and camel is a very classic look too. I like the way you belted the cardigan in your second look. Have you tried using a belt higher up at your natural waist? And you could probably open one more button on the cardigan.

Pastrygirl, I like the jeans and green shirt on you and the necklace! Cute diver too!

Brgnmom, I know you and you are definitely not high maintenance! Your sister is just jealous. Keep posting pics! Can't wait to see you again!

MontrealMum, I love that pink top on you. That coral/salmon color works really well with your complexion. And cute hat!

Twoboos, cute gray cape and black booties! I like the fringe & asymmetrical hem...I don't think it's too much at all. (Now where are those Aquatalias? Wear them with the cape and take some pics! ;))

JenT, I love that pic! Your pose and your smile are great--you can tell you're having so much fun! And :waving4: to a fellow "REI chic" addict! LOL about the fleece uniform! Good for you for trying new things!

Brgnmom, about the belts. My top three belts are a wide black elastic braided one, a skinny brown one, and a wide tan one with a braided detail on the back. I think it's good to have a combination of wide and skinny, and brown and black to start with. (Some belts are even reversible so you get brown and black on the same belt!) Then you can move on to ones with different colors (like a skinny red or yellow one) for a pop of color, or different widths (medium vs. really wide) or different lengths for using at the natural waist vs. at the hip or fun "statement belts" (like my tan one). Here are some pics of my outfits with belts:

Brgnmom, you asked about my cape. I have a camel coat that's about 15 years old and all worn out (lining is torn, sleeves are worn). So I thought this camel cape would be a nice replacement:
Helene Berman Wool Cape (http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/helene-berman-wool-blend-cape/3172548)

I'm also trying to decide between Arivecchi's green poncho and this purple one also from Anthro:

I'm loving seeing everyone's outfits!

I've been lurking and hesitating to post, but here goes. I wore this to work today. I debated about the belt and shoes, then got to work and was stuck with them.

I can't believe i didn't notice this thread before. And I have a question for you ladies using your smart phones to take pictures. How are you using the photos from your smart phone to post here? Do you still have to download them to a website like shutterfly or picasa before posting here?

I've always had trouble posting pictures here. :crying:I upload mine onto picasa and then copy them and paste them here.

I really like the poncho, it looks much better than you describe it. You make it sound like a hot mess, but everything works together, and nothing is overpowering.:yeahthat:

Goldenpig, I am utterly amazed. You have totally branched out from fleece and jeans! I gotta say you look fabulous and I can tell from the pics you are having a great time doing it. You just look really alive and confident with your new style. Keep it up girl! Thanks for the urban equestrian idea. I am going to go with that. It is honestly what I have been doing I think! I love knee high boots, corduroy pants, capes and dark denim. :)

I'd love to try a red belt! Nearly all my belts are black and some shade of brown. I need to branch out with color.

I do like the shoes, but I've hardly ever worn them because they're trendier than my normal shoe style. I was worried they may have been too casual for work. You can't tell in the pic but it's a big platform wedge - 4" heel with 1" platform!

I've been away but I just wanted to post quickly. Goldenpig and Arrivecchi have been so generous with their helpful advice- this is an amazing thread and you guys are great :)

Tny, I love that cardigan, and the whole look. Now that I see the shoes I agree with TwinFoxes that I'd probably topple off too, but they're way cute. I am not above a little discomfort for a cute shoe :tongue5:

Jent - wow, just WOW!!! Gorgeous picture, gorgeous mama, gorgeous outfit.

Elektra, I'm loving the new flowing cardigan! I am so envious of your height because I've always wanted to be 2 or 3 inches taller which would put me at the same height as you. Tall people can carry off great long dresses/tunics/sweaters AND short bottoms. And you really know how to dress your figure.

Ok, so I've been inspired....help me out with this dress. I got it at anthroplogie a few years ago. It fits me again, well another few lbs down and it will be even better. It's a heavier weight fabric and I got it in winer.

I'm wearing it with grey tights and the grey merona suede boots from Target. It has more black in it, so I'm thinking black tights and boots would be better. I do need to wear a cami underneath it, currently wearing black. I did see it styled in the store with brown cami, so maybe brown boots and tights as well.

I do have brown boots but need brown tights. I have black tights, but need black boots .

Or forget about it...dress doesn't suit me.

I had to redo it, it's there now. The light is crappy. I thought the dress looked better on, then when I'm seeing it now in the picture. I might need to lose a little more weight before I wear it. I really like it and would like to wear it this winter, if all of you can style me better than what I have done myself.

GP, thank you so much for your thorough tips & advice on how to style different outfits with belts! You look great and amazing, before and after your experimentation w/ different styles. I thought you looked cute and pretty when I met you IRL and you have stepped up a notch in being trendy now. ;)

Sorry it's taken me awhile to respond and get back online - it's been a hectic wkd and DD has been a little more demanding, and we were at a bday party earlier today. GP, I especially love that thin red belt that you posted, and also :heartbeat: the details on that thicker brown belt. Love the pics of you with your adorable kids! I really like the plum-colored cape - I think it would compliment your complexion. And, I love that camel-colored cape on you - it looks like it would go with a lot of different outfits & you look hot in those boots. I'll keep you posted on when we plan on visiting - I haven't been back for an extended time like I did when I met up with you, but hoping to coordinate something in a few months. ;)

Thank you for all the great fashion tips to you, A, & other BBB posters here.

tny, I really like those shoes & like how a great pair of heels can sexify (ha, wonder if this is an actual word?) an outfit.

jent, I love your picture and how you pulled together different items (knee-high boots w/ the dress & jacket). You look great & your DD looks like she's having a fun time hanging out with you!

elektra, I really like how you paired your first cardigan w/ the dress & how it adds a pop of color to your outfit.

nicci, I like those knee-high boots and how you paired them with your dress. How about adding a necklace or an accessory like earrings to your outfit?

Thanks for sharing your pics everyone!

to update, I ended up going to Anthropologie for a quick trip earlier today to return that dress & cardi b/c even though my Dh liked the dress, *I* wasn't feeling the love for the outfit. GP's "love it/leave it" advice helped me personally. I think the ruching of the dress was a bit much for me when I tried it on again, and I'm used to wearing dresses that are made out of a thinner material. I also gravitate towards solid-colored dresses - this is a pic of me & Dh when I was around 7-months postpartum, and I'm wearing a strapless black dress and carrying my (one and only) LV purse (https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-DUGLtV521dU/Tn7qkMR6KwI/AAAAAAAAADs/cy12UJAz2CQ/s288/DSC03282555.jpg). Beachbum, I love those pants!!!!! The first outfit looks great -- I'd definitely keep that. I like the sweater vest, though it looks a little bulky in the pic. Does it look bulky IRL? I think the jacket looks too loose/big -- it hides your shape and looks a little boxy. I love that last sweater, but maybe with a different color top underneath, so it pops more?

Beachbum, AWESOME pants! Are those the ones I have been stalking at Anthropologie? ;). Love the first look. The sweater vest does look too bulky in the pic, but it's still an ok look. The third look - the proportions seem a little off - how does it look with the jacket closed? I like the last look - very fall!

Niccig, I like the dress on you! It fits you well. I would try it with brown boots (no tights) and a fitted denim jacket or brown cardi.

nicci, I love the dress. I totally think it suits you and looks great with your figure! (look how great it looks on top in particular--lovely dainty collarbones!) I think it is also a style that could be worn over pants/leggings with flats.

Beachbum, I love #1, I like #2 too (I think the blueish family sweater and the orange family pants work well together, but I like a big fluffy vest. The others look good too. I'd never have thought pants that color could be so versatile!! And, man, do those pants fit you like a glove--well chosen!

What a great thread. You guys are so fun. I want to comment on so many more outfits, but DS is calling...

JenT, I love your outfit! If I had something similar I would totally copy your look!

Beachbum, love those pants! Pumpkin is one of my favorite colors! #4 is my absolute favorite. I covet that sweater--it looks so cozy. Where did you get them? I am on the lookout for some colorful pants too. And love the scarf in #1. Agree with Arivecchi and pastrygirl on their assessments--jacket looks like you could size down.

Brgnmom--whoo! You look hot in that black dress! Bet your DH liked it! Bummer about the Anthro dress, but I agree if you don't love it, you won't wear it. Keep looking for a dress that makes you feel totally fab! (That silhouette was a little too conservative for you anyways). Hope to see you again soon (maybe we can go shopping too!).

Infomama (and others), don't be shy about posting, I'm sure you've got some nice stuff too. Even though I have bought a lot of new stuff, I've also been trying to be more creative and wear old stuff I did have but was ignoring. I was wearing something like 10% of my wardrobe 90% of the time--just reaching for old favorites and wearing them the same way every time. I had a bunch of nice printed skirts that I never wore because I didn't want to wear heels at work (thought they would be too uncomfortable). When I bought a pair of boots, suddenly I could wear all those skirts and dresses with boots and also I started wearing a few pairs of comfortable heels as well. So I really expanded my wardrobe by digging around (as a bonus, it got me to purge a lot of stuff that didn't fit right anymore or was outdated). I read this great article in Redbook that really made me think about how to combine pieces more creatively. They took six new fall pieces from under $250 total, and combined it with 12 basics that most people already have, to get 30 different outfits. I love it!
http://www.redbookmag.com/beauty-fashion/tips-advice/cute-fall-outfits

Nicci, cute dress! I am totally into pattern mixing right now. I agree with A, you should wear it with the brown boots and no tights. Agree with trying a cropped denim jacket or cropped cardi on top. And you look great in that dress right now! Stop with the "I have to lose a few pounds before I can wear it". You look lovely and not fat at all! Anyways, whatever weight we are (and it's always changing from pregnancy, postpartum, nursing, diets/exercise etc etc), we have to dress the body we're in right now.

OK, speaking of pattern mixing, here's a couple more outfits and I'll take a break for a little while so you don't get sick of me. Here's another cute belt for brgnmom. I found this on sale at Anthro--it has metallic leaves on the front. It feels very autumn-y. I wore it with a cream shirt, plaid midi skirt and gray cardigan, all from H&M. And my favorite new suede sandals. They were super expensive Chie Mihara and a lot higher heel than I'm used to, but they're very comfortable for such high heels because of the stacked heel, platform, ankle strap and cushiony bottom. I've been wearing them to death since I got them! And I'm having fun with pattern mixing with this new Fossil bag I got that matches a lot of my fall outfit colors.

Speaking of branching out, here's another one where I was trying a totally new look for me. This was a fun YLF challenge where we were supposed to do an outfit that was the total opposite of our usual style. Like I am usually colorful and ladylike and "polished" and I tried to do an outfit that was dark and tough and "rough around the edges". I was having fun with this, even down to the slouchy model poses (in my mind I was channeling scriptkitten). The shirt is from H&M, jeans and scarf from Gap, and ruffle trench is Kate Spade that I got on sale. And of course the Aquatalia red zipper boots! Someone posted that Kate Spade could not be roughed up so I took that as a challenge!

Thanks for the compliment. The longer flip on the hair is new...about 6mos in the making. It's always been a short pixie and I was afraid that I'd look at pics and see that I was stuck in a hairstyle rut for 10yrs so my stylist convinced me to grow it out just a bit. I'm having fun with it and an extra bonus is that I can go longer between cuts.

I do have a teal cap sleeve shirt and a raspberry shirt, so I'll try that. I really should find some more jewel tone shirts because those colors are always flattering on me. I do need to find some belts. The navy one was adjusted as small as it would go. It came with a pair of capris that hit below the waist so of course the belt is bigger. All of my other belts are the standard issue brown/black medium thickness belts to go with trousers. I just always have had a hard time spending money on trendy accessories, but I know I really should.

No, twowhat! Don't say that! Your opinion totally counts! That's the beauty of fashion...there are so many diverse styles and it's so subjective that there's no one "right" answer. I'm just having fun with fashion and starting to come out of my shell so I wanted to share what I've learned with the rest of you! But I've only been doing this for two months now so I'm no "fashion expert" either! (Just a quick learner, maybe! ;)) Seriously guys, think about joining YLF. There's ladies with all different ages and sizes and shapes and budgets there. People post their "what I wore" outfits and "keep or return" purchases for review/critique all the time and everyone is so nice and nobody ever gets tired of newbie questions or posts! I've learned so much from posting my outfits and questions there!

I'll try the dress again with brown boots and repost a pic. I have a couple of jackets that might work with it. I like the idea of leggings and flats - need to get some leggings.

GP - I agree we have to dress with the body shape we are rather than waiting to lose weight. I am losing weight, so I'm rediscovering things that fit again. Which is good, as DH and I have agreed to limit purchases for a while. I am lusting after several pieces you have all posted. But I think it will do me good to look through what I have and see them in new ways to wear them.

When I can go shopping, I'll post here for help. I think there's some basics that I don't have that will make getting dressed much easier.

I'm not someone that's into fashion, and I don't spend much time on my clothes. I shop once or twice a year, and get several things when I have to. I admit I could use some more effort, but even then, I want it to be easy. I'm a casual, throw it on, be comfortable kind of person.

I do like many of the outfits I've seen you all wearing, and you still look comfortable. This is a great thread.

Ok, so here's the dress again with brown boots - I'll get brown tights and see how they look too for when it gets colder. I have a jacket that I think is OK, but I can see why A. suggested a cropped jacket or cardigan, which I don't have. As it's a-line, all my jackets cover that up and you can't tell.

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a385/niccig03/103_0449.jpg

I also tried this. These are my lucky jeans that are the slimmest fit I have, tucked into boots, which I've never done. The tunic I've had for ages, it's sheer so I have a brown cami underneath. I tried a couple of jackets, so I can wear it when it's colder, not sure which works best. I used to layer a brown long sleeved top underneath, but the neckline on that is too high. Might need to look for a different long-sleeve t.

Pastrygirl, you have a great sense of style! I love that shirtdress on you! I can tell from that and the other shirt you posted that that shade of green really suits your complexion. The dress reminds me of an Anthro dress I tried on:
Ihrin shirtdress (http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=22806756&catId=CLOTHES-DRESSES)
http://gallery.allwomenstalk.com/Fashion/2011/08/8-pretty-fall-dresses/8_ihrin-shirtdress_8-pretty-fall-dresses.jpg
and also of an H&M olive shirtdress that I bought (pics a few posts back).
Your shirtdress is such a versatile dress to wear year-round! Plain in the spring & summer with sandals and necklace or breezy scarf. Then for fall/winter, you can layer with a trench or fitted blazer or cargo jacket or denim jacket over it, or layer a turtleneck or other long-sleeve shirt under it in autumn colors like rust or eggplant. Try it with knee high boots with bare legs, or with leggings or tights and booties or flats. Or throw on a nice cozy autumn scarf. I'm even playing around with putting belted sweaters over it so it acts like a skirt.

Niccig, you are so pretty! Love your hair--I'm partial to the long straight hair and specs look myself ;). I love the dress with the boots. The denim jacket is OK but I agree that a cropped denim jacket or cardi would be better to show off your waist with that dress. I'm on the hunt for a nice cropped one myself. And I love that flowy patterned tunic and how you tucked the boots into the jeans! I'm just getting into skinny jeans myself and I love how it looks under longer voluminous tops.

You ladies are all so lovely and stylish! I am loving this thread.

I'll look for something better to wear over the dress for when it gets colder. I should be able to get away without a jacket/cardigan for awhile in SoCal.

I didn't think of layering the jackets over the tunic before. This will let me wear it most of the winter. Like PastryGirl and TwinFoxes, I haven't though about winterizing summer clothes, but in SoCal we can get away with that. I should think about a few more versatile cardigans or jackets.

I know GP said to dress for size that you are, and I'll do that. But this has motivated me to get moving on the exercising. That dress looked better when I bought it, and I know I can get back to that.

Niccig, the tunic and jeans look - with or without jacket - looks really good and urban chic IMO.

The issue with the dress look IMHO is that the boots are too "rough" for such a soft and pretty dress. Do you have another style of boot to try with it? Something more polished and less "heavy" feeling? I would also try it with a darker jacket as opposed to a light denim one. I still like the dress on you!

I just got this dress and love it! Do you think I'll be able to winterize it? Or does it look strictly spring/summer? It was on clearance and fit perfectly, so I couldn't pass it up.

Pastrygirl, you have a great sense of style!Awww, thanks!!! This is completely new in the past few months! I'm really trying hard! And I've also been subscribing to the "if I don't LOVE LOVE LOVE it, it stays in the store" rule for a couple of years now. It really helps!

I'm even playing around with putting belted sweaters over it so it acts like a skirt.Great suggestions! I'll have to try them out. I wasn't sure if the detailing screamed "summer!" or not.

I went to TJMaxx (again) today and ended up with a few belts and two scarves. I'm going to try my hand at the whole scarf-as-accessory thing. I really like Betsy Johnson and Michael Kors belts, which they seem to have all the time now at TJM. I also found a bright red genuine leather belt from Talbot's there, for $8! It has a really neat detail -- the brass buckle is on both sides, so it's like a mirror image. Another belt I got was a leopard/animal print with a black border on top/bottom, so it's fun, but not super wild.

You can wear it with a long fallish cardi and plain riding boots - like hunter boots. It looks great on you! Thanks! I hadn't even thought of a really long cardigan like in that link. I'll have to keep an eye out for one!

OK ladies, I am going to get on my soapbox now for a little PSA. This is not directed at anyone in particular, but I have noticed a lot of negative self-talk going on in this thread. I can't post pics because I'm too fat, still postpartum/nursing/pregnant, frumpy, ugly, unfashionable, have a big X (tummy, butt, hips etc), don't have as fancy clothes as the rest of you, can't find clothes that my husband likes, can only dress my children and not myself, don't have time to shop for myself, etc. etc. I have gone through most of those negative thoughts myself and I finally decided not to keep holding myself back anymore. As mommies, it's hard for us to overcome this urge to help everyone else but neglect ourselves. I have to admit at first I felt really guilty shopping for myself, taking pictures of myself, worried that it was too "vain" and self-indulgent. But now I have seen major boosts in my self-confidence and professional appearance at work and now I am feeling more comfortable that it's OK for us to focus on ourselves and our own happiness a little bit!

Notice the title of this thread is "Post your favorite outfits". Not "Post only super-fashionable outfits and only if you look like a model" (though evidently that's what some of you are thinking). Fashion is for everyone, not only for models who are super skinny, tall, rich, and have a giant closet full of designer clothes, etc. I've seen pics of a lot of you in that "what do you look like" thread and you're all beautiful mamas!

How about we change the title slightly to "Post an outfit that makes you happy when you wear it"? Because that's really the most important thing, the clothes you wear should make you feel good about yourself, no matter what you look like (and if they don't make you feel fab, donate them and find something that fits!). At YLF they say "the only rule is to have fun with fashion". You don't have to wear nice stuff all the time either. Just pick that one favorite outfit that you always save for those special occasions (that never seem to come around) and just wear it already!

OK, sorry for the rant but I just had to get that off my chest! :love-retry:

GP, I'm with you. I posted my pic because I'm not skinny, and you know because I'm ALWAYS posting in fashion threads that I love fashion. I've been slow with posting mostly because it's hard to find time, but it's not because of image issues. I'm going to post the new sweater I bought today tomorrow, you guys can help me accessorize. :)

Fashion is for everyone. :) wear clothes that look good on you, and you will feel better about yourself. Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now.

They opened a new shopping plaza in MA and the formerly small junky TJMaxx moved there and is big and shiny and new now, and full of good stuff PastryGirl is buying! ;)

This is also the plaza where and Wegman's is opening next month. I get the feeling I will be spending a lot of time (and money) there.

Actually, I got the dress at JCPenney, and today's TJMaxx trip was to my local one, not the new one. :)

Ok all... a bunch of outfits coming. Ignore the mess!

DVF dress that I love. I can wear a tank under it for work b/c it is a little low. No accessories yet. Shoes are Jimmy Choo
