I have 11 out of a dozen eggs that have a use by date of tomorrow. I think I remember hearing here that eggs last longer than the use by date, but maybe I'm imagining that. Do I need to toss them, or are they still ok?

They are safe much, much longer than their date. Use them if they still smell good and look fine.

I swear I read on here that someone used theirs almost a year later......makes me feel ok if I am over the date by a few days!

Yeah, you'll *definitely* know if they're bad once you crack 'em. A rotten egg smells really, really awful; there's no way to miss it unless you have absolutely no sense of smell. No reason to waste perfectly good food!

Also bad eggs float and fresher eggs sink. But I agree, as a general rule...eggs stay fresher way longer than the date says!

Yay! Thanks for the responses. That's what I thought, but I couldn't remember.

if you're worried, crack them one by one into a saucer, sniff that one & put it in your cake mix or whatever, then crack & sniff another, etc. that way if one *is* bad (which in a few days just won't happen, i'm just sayin'), you won't ruin whatever you're cooking with a bad egg.
