I'm ordering this Boden flippy cord skirt (http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Womens-Skirts/Knee-Length-Skirts/WG412-BLK/Womens-Black-Flippy-Cord-Skirt.html) in black with the sale plus WSRM code for an additional 20% off. I'd love suggestions for what to get to wear with it - the "outfit" thread has inspired me to think in outfits rather than pieces that never get worn because I don't have anything to go with it.

The Boden outfit-maker recommends this (http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Womens-Tops-T-shirts/Long-Sleeved-Tops/WL611-BLU/Womens-Military-Blue-Folded-Trim-Top.html) top but I'm not so sure that will work (I'm looking for a more dressy look). I am small torsoed/waisted, with broader hips. Typically, dresses are flattering on me, but skirts make me look more matronly - probably because I don't know how to wear them/what to pair with them. I think what I need is a fitted top that will narrow at the waist, or a belt that will cinch at the waist. I don't want a straighter sweater or top that covers the waist and falls to hip length, since that will create a more boxy look.

I'd love any suggestions from you fashionistas! (ETA: Bonus points for long or 3/4 sleeved tops since I will wear the skirt with thicker tights and boots as a winter skirt.) Thanks!

What about something like this top:
Twisted Ascot Tee (http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=21385729&catId=CLOTHES-KNITSTEES&pushId=CLOTHES-KNITSTEES&popId=CLOTHES&navCount=780&color=041&isProduct=true&fromCategoryPage=true&isSubcategory=true&subCategoryId=CLOTHES-KNITSTEES&templateType=subCategory) (it says Navy but it looks like it's actually a gray shirt)

You could do the grey tights and black boots and a really dark denim jacket on top, kind of like how they show it in the pic.

Thanks GP! That's exactly the look I am going for - more contoured at the waidt. Dark gray or charcoal would be a good color. I added an ETA to say long-sleeved is preferable, but with a cardi or jacket over that could work. Thanks!

I was admiring a professor's outfit today. She's in her 50's I would say and she had on pants, a knit top, jacket and a belt under the jacket. Now, I know many here would belt over the jacket, but there was enough belt to show the waist.

Anyways, just an idea.

That skirt is gorgeous! No suggestions but love the top GP suggested.

Hope you post a pic of this outfit!

How about this? I love it and would wear it with skirts, slacks, jeans and flat knee high boots.

That Maxstudio site is fun! lots of good stuff!

What about this? I don't know if you could belt it. Someone more knowledgable could maybe answer that. ;)

Update - so I got the black skirt and this skinny belt in pewter (http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/Womens-Accessories/Belts/AK186-PEW/Womens-Pewter-Metallic-Skinny-Belt.html) to go with it. I have a charcoal grey fitted v-neck sweater that I will wear, with the belt over. What do you think?

And arivecchi, I think I am going to get that Max cape to wear as a tunic with leggings!

That does sound like a great combo citymama! I bet that cape will look so nice on you. And such a great price! I would have gotten one if they had the cream version available in my size because I already have a grey one.

I think the cape would match that skirt beautifully.

Another idea--for colder weather? I have this (got it with a gift card) and love it. Very well made. And it is on sale. :-)

ETA: Click on the gray. That would go best with your skirt, IMO.

I was going to wear

http://canvas.landsend.com/pp/StylePage-405488_X1.html?amp;CM_MERCH=REC-_-CVPP-_-GGT-_-2-_-405488-_-405525#

with a lilac Banana Republic shirt I have

or

http://canvas.landsend.com/pp/WoolLapelJacket~213919_-1.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::DCH&CM_MERCH=IDX_Women-_-BlazersJackets&origin=index

with a turtleneck.

I have such a casual work env that anything other than jeans+T/sweater is considered majorly dressed up.
