What kind of boots for a short gal with thick calves. I'm pear shaped so I have heavy thighs and thick calves. I don't have cankles...my ankles are actually tiny...but my calves start getting chunky right above my ankles so there isn't a nice shapely definition to them. About 10yr ago (the last big boot fad) I had a pair of black knee high boots that took an army to get zipped up. I want something I can wear with pants, skirts, dresses and would love if I could wear them with tights or leggings (though I don't currently own leggings). I don't own skinny jeans and don't envision buying any so I don't need them to be something that pants tuck into. Is there one boot/bootie I could get to do all those things that would look good on my short chubby legs?

I tried on a few pairs like the following but nothing said "it" to me.

Tucking pants into boots is a PITB, imo, which is why I like skinny jeans with my boots. But, if the pants aren't bulky it can work. Also depends on the boots.

I have a very similar pair to those Rialto ones. Mine are Bear Trap and in brown. I get a lot of use out of them in the winter. I mostly wear them with boot cut or trouser pants (as opposed to straight or skinny jeans).

I think the Jelly Pop ones would emphasize your thicker legs. They just hit at an awkward part of the leg.

The Earthies are interesting but I have no idea what they would work with. I don't think they would look good with skirts but I could be missing a fashionable page. :)

eta- I don't think that 1 pair of boot will do the job for you. I think that some boots look better with skirts and dresses vs pants and jeans. Again, hopefully someone with more fashion sense can chime in.

etaa- I did think of something. I just bought these Steve Madden boots. They are leather and slouchy. I think I can wear them with a variety of bottoms (everything I've tried them on with has looked good). They are forgiving on calves though I have skinny calves so I could be wrong about the fit.

Oh those are cute!

I guess I don't envision ever tucking anything into them. They'd either be covered by a pant leg or shown with a knee length skirt/dress. And you are probably right that there is no 1 boot that will do it all.

Agreed that the second boots hit at a very awkward point on the leg. Definitely go with tall boots (1-2 inches below the knee) or booties... maybe both!

I have a pair of Bare Trap boots (similar to this one (http://www.dsw.com/shoe/bare+traps+rynona+boot?prodId=227690&productRef=SEARCH)) which are my go-to boots for the office and nights out. Comfortable and versatile.

I have a deep seated fear of booties :rotflmao: but I just bought these yesterday so I don't have to wear tall boots under my work slacks.

But for a shorter person with thick calves, I would definitely recommend a tall boot with a heel paired with skirts/dresses that are just above the knee. Anything longer might make you look shorter, but definitely try out a few looks!

So you'd wear boot cup pants exclusively when you wore the boots and just cover them up? I'd probably do booties instead- more comfortable. The 1st pair of yours would be good or pp's link (super cute!).

I bought these boots by accident in a wide last year and plan to return them (still haven't gotten around to it) because they just don't work for me, but I think they have a great, versatile look that you could dress up or down. The boot is shorter than it looks--seemed almost like a midcalf boot on me, but that would probably be good for someone with shorter legs. Also, the shaft was way too wide for me, from the ankle up. But again, might be good for you. There is a strap at the top as well that you can tighten or loosen to customize the fit depending on whether you are wearing pants tucked in or skirts, etc. I'm sure you can find codes around to bring the price down. Good luck. I keep looking at the boots threads because I am on the hunt for a knee-high pair I love!

I measured my calf and it's 14in so not too terribly wide but maybe wider than a typical sz 6 boot fits? I guess I'm leaning towards a tall boot now since really if I'm wearing pants I can just wear regular shoes. The boots then really would be for pairing with skirts and dresses. I do worry though about only my knee cap showing LOL!
