Here's another one. I was cleaning out my fridge and found a sealed vanilla yogurt with a July 15, 2011 date on the bottom shelf....use or toss?

Any good baking recipes with yogurt, that might be an alternative.

July? Oh no, that's just too long for me, I'd have to toss it.

Well if the keepers are saying toss....in the bin it goes....although I'll wait til garbage day.

How far past the date is OK for yogurt? I have a horrible time with them getting shoved to the back of the fridge and "lost"....I need a better system!

As a person who is generally a "keeper", the only thing I would consider doing with that yogurt that old is flushing it into my septic system. :ROTFLMAO:

Ok, again, I'll be gross. It's yogurt. If it looks and smells ok that wouldn't bug me too much. Would I toss it? I probably would just b/c I have enough stuff in my fridge that if I am cleaning it out I go for a fresh start. But, dh would eat that if it were in there.

Yes, please toss the yogurt. I tend to be risk averse about these types of things and, in particular, for dairy products.

What don't I know about yogurt? Why sit in your drain?

Will it do something magical? I, too, have old yogurt in my fridge :)

I would totally eat that, almost without hesitation. Provided it smelled ok and had nothing growing on it. :p

Please toss it! And do tell, does it have mold growing in it?

Oh we have septic, is it really good for septic?

I read an article about yogurts "good bacteria" being good for the septic. Not sure how accurate it is, but since I hate to just throw stuff away, I do this whenever we have old yogurt, or if the kids don't finish theirs. It hasn't hurt it to my knowledge. We've been here 4 years without a problem.

:yeahthat::yeahthat:

But if I were going to toss it, I think I would flush it rather than try to get it down the drain. Gets to the septic system either way...

I don't know about the mold since it is sealed and I haven't opened it. I sort of doubt it though. Before I toss it I'll check it for you though. I might put it down the drain as people have mentioned. I'm afraid to put it in the toilet as I am worried it will "plop" out and splash toilet water on me. :hysterical:

that I actually found an older greek style yogurt in my second fridge with a May 15, 2011 date....I opened it to put it down the drain and it actually smelled perfectly fine....go figure....no mold, looked ok, smelled "normal"....but I DID NOT taste it ;)
