One that is not so tall that I cannot walk home from work while wearing it, but also one that is stylish and modern looking. I prefer suede but open to all suggestions.

Links are always appreciated! :)

I like the dolce vita ones but they are too tall for commuting purposes I think. :(

I just did a search on endless for wedge boots with a 2 to 2.75 heel height:

Not sure if these are "modern" looking, but the menswear inspired shoes are really in right now. I think these would be cute with tights and shorts:
http://www.endless.com/Michael-Kors-Womens-Arissa-Bootie/dp/B005BPRPIE/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&cAsin=B00596BIHY&fromPage=search&sr=1-6&qid=1317833420698&asinTitle=Michael%20Michael%20Kors%20Arissa%20Boot ie&contextTitle=search%20results&clientPageSize=100&node=242261011&sort=relevance-fs-browse-rank&nodes=242280011&heelheights=519510011&size=100

This one's a bit taller than a bootie:

I tried those third to last Kensi Dagger ones. I like the way they look but they did not feel great on and one of the shoes felt like it was sewn crooked to me. Could have been a fluke but I sent them back. I have been eyeing that second last pair too. Won't they be too casual for you though?

I am baffled at how all these booties can look so similar but so different.

Oh, I didn't remember that you had ordered those kensi ones. Bummer. It's an impossible search! Argh! Don't know what to do. I want something that works with slacks and skirts and tights. I have a pair of awesome Miu Miu booties but I cannot walk home in them, so I want something like those but more comfy.

And not booties, but I totally want these for with my new flare jeans:

I personally will not consider any that have the suede down the heel, because I know come winter, with all of the salt and junk on the ground, I will have them ruined.

The second pair looks like a pair of Frye's that I have. Mine remind me more of sandals than booties, though, so maybe they are not. I absolutely love these shoes, and find them surprisingly comfortable for what they are, but my pair at least is too tall for comfortable train commuting, I think. That said, I get complemented on them every time I wear them, so maybe it is worth it :) I'll be interested to see what you think.

Yep, they are Frye pumps. Not booties, but I think they would look awesome with slacks and skirts and tights. I am worried about the comfort issue. Ordered from zappos so I can try them at home and decide! glad to hear you like yours!

Here is a Cole Haan option you may like. The Nike Air really helps keep the shoes comfortable.

These look great. They're really cute...I just don't think I could buy them for our NJ winters because of all of the slush and junk that will soon be on the ground...I'd only be able to wear them around the house with the suede on the heel. I wish I could.

They are Lauren by Ralph Lauren from zappos. I will post pics when I can. Going away for the weekend soon. :)

So I received both pairs. I prefer the style of the Frye pump which is obviously not a bootie. It can work the same outfits though - work slacks, jeans, skirts with tights.

The Lauren bootie is very comfortable but very wide around my ankle. I do not love how it looks with slacks. The front is too round. The Frye is suprisingly easy to walk in given how tall it is, but I do not know that I can walk home from the train in them comfortably. I guess I could change into rain boots, which I do a lot in the winter.

Which one would you pick?

boolady

If you don't like how the Lauren booties look, don't keep them. They're not going to get used unless you literally put them on just to walk to the station. I'd keep the Fryes if you like them that much, even if they're not as practical, because you can still wear them for other things.

You don't love the way they look and so it's like the worst of both worlds- not super cute and also not the comfiest you could get.
If you really want to go practical, I think you could find something even comfier- if you are going to change them out for the commute, but not horrendously ugly either.

I'm just seeing this thread now and FWIW, I agree with you on the booties in your picture - definitely too loose around the ankle. But the Fryes pumps look very cute and versatile!

I also really loved the Cole Haan ones a PP listed above (was it Melbel?). Very very cute. May have to add those to my list, esp since they have Nike Air. Who doesn't love a little Nike Air ;)
