I seriously need a great pair of jeans (or two or three). I wear jeans every single day and I still wear old Levi's 517s or Gap 1969 jeans. Really comfy and fit reasonably well but not particularly stylish. I'm a bootcut jeans gal and I'm looking for dark wash, mid-rise jeans (no plumbers crack, thank you!). I'm approx a size 4 in jeans, pear shape. I usually wear a 30" inseam which means I need to get regular length jeans hemmed most of the time.

I bought a pair of Joe's jeans at the amazon.com sale and they're pretty nice, not great. I was disappointed by by how lightweight the fabric was. I'm a little bewildered by the many Citizens of Humanity and 7 for all mankind and other premium denim offerings on sites like zappos and piperlime, so I could use advice on which brand and style works well for other mamas. Of course I should go to a store, but I so rarely get to shop for clothes in person and I have an upcoming work trip which will involve some casual evenings out, for which I would love to have great jeans (and shoes, but that's a different thread).

So, what brand and style of jeans do you love and why? Links please!

ETA Here are some on sale at the Last Call NM site that I'm considering - does anyone know if Sevens run TTS, and if so, if 27 would be the right size for me as a size 4 person?

I just bought a bunch of jeans to replace my ancient "mom jeans"...I tried on over 50 pairs and these are the ones that work best:

I really like Gap Always Skinny (dark blue wash) and Long and Leans (light black and also navy blue trouser style), got them all 50% off (about $35 each). I also picked up some pairs of premium denim on sale at Amazon & Anthro (all about $45-80 each):
Paige Hidden Hills bootcut in blue (Amazon) and white (Anthro)
7 for all mankind Gwenevere skinny in black (Amazon)
AG Farrah Skinny in blue (Anthro)--bought on sale and got another price adjustment!

The only problem with my bootcuts are that they are all too long (I have the same inseam length as you) so I will have to get them hemmed. But I want to wait until I've washed them a couple times first. These are all higher rise jeans so good for preventing muffin top. FYI since we seem to be about the same size (I usually wear size 4 too), I got 28's in the premiums, size 4 in the Always Skinny and 2 in the Long & Leans.

Hope that helps! Good luck with the jeans search!

ETA: I would try on both 27 and 28. I'm an apple so the 27s were too muffiny on me.

I am pear or X shaped, and of the designer jeans have had the best like with Dojo style by 7 for all mankind. My everyday jeans are Classic Rider by Lucky Jeans, which retail for ~$100 but can be frequently found at Marshall's for $35. 7s run TTS for me in Dojo style, small in others, and Lucky Jeans tend to run large.

I have had good luck with Citizens of Humanity. I have both a boot cut and a straight leg style in Citizens.
I (think) I am a rectangle or I that turns into an 8 when I gain weight. So basically, I do not have a defined waist, but am long and fairly lean these days.

My latest jeans purchases were the Sevens Gwenevere and they are true skinny jeans.

I also am really liking the straight leg AG jeans I got in the Amazon sale too.

My favorite jeans are seven bootcuts. I have several. So flattering!

How about these:

I have the last pair and love it. The original bootcut style is great but lower waisted. They run a size small for me. Are you a 2 or a 4? You probably need a 26 or 27. Get it with free returns and order both sizes so you can see the difference. Then return the one you don't like.

I love the Seven Dojo style also. I can see why you don't like Joe's. I think some of the styles are meant for curvier girls.

Whichever brand/style looks the best at the moment! :p

I have a pair of Gap 1969 Long & Lean bootcut (I think it's both those, 1969 and L&L) I am loving. Can't beat 'em for the price.

A really OLD pair of Banana Republic Curvy bootcut. I think they call the style something else now. I got them when DD1 was about a year old, and I can't part with them. I should see if they still carry anything similar.

I am also liking the Joe's Jeans I got from the Nordy's Anniv sale, and a pair I got on clearance at TJMaxx.

I have to be honest, I just bought about 4 pairs of Jag Jeans with a 30 inch inseam and they're great--especially because they were around $75! Got them from Zappos.

Currently? Nine West. I've never loved jeans this much! I got one pair of mid-rise flare at TJMaxx, and one pair of bootcut from Amazon. I'm thinking about getting another from Amazon! I could live in these! ETA: I just read a negative review saying they are short. That's one thing I love about them -- they didn't need hemming! I'm 5'7 and have a 30 or 30.5-inch inseam. The flare ones I have to wear with chunky shoes with a bit of a heel, but the bootcut work perfectly with flats if not just a teensy bit long. ETA: the bootcut are these, though I got them in the dark rinse: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00495Y5W6

I have never ever been able to buy jeans online. I have do it in person. My favorites right now are Lucky Brand Easy Rider jeans (http://www.luckybrand.com/Easy-Rider-Bootcut-Jeans/LBW00665,default,pd.html?cgid=womensShopByFit&selectedColor=461) (I did get mine at Loehmann's, but if you do order these from LuckyBrand.com you can return them to any Lucky Brand store), but I am a solid 10-12 and have some curves. When I didn't have much of a butt prior to DD1 I loved my regular Citizens of Humanity bootcut jeans (I don't recall the style name). Now my fancy jeans are a pair of 7 For All Man Kind "A" Pocket jeans. I also really like these jeans from Calvin Klein (http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=256054&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results) (which I am about 5lbs away from getting back into).

I am a curvy girl and I have never once found a pair of Joe's Jeans that fit me right. I just don't get it, they don't look good on me; even when I had no butt they didn't look right.

I highly recommend going to Nordstroms and trying on lots of styles and brands. The sales people are realky helpful and knowledgable, esp with jeans. I have found jeans I like in lots of different brands there. My personal favorites are Paige Premium denim and AG but our body types are pretty much opposite! And Nordstroms also has free hemming! I also second goldenpigs rec for the Gap always skinny jeans if you want to try a pair of skinnies in addition your boot cuts.

I second that. Nordstrom has a great selection of premium denim that you can try. For full-priced purchases, they will do free regular hemming but if you want to keep the original hem (don't quite know how they do that) then there's a modest charge. I like Joe's Provacateur and Hudson signature bootcut. Even though I am 5'8", I always get petite if I can so I don't have to hem and I also usually wear flats. Citymama, I think you're in SF. If so, you should check out Loehmanns too. They actually have quite a lot of premium denim. I've gotten a couple pairs for about $75 each.

I recently purchased and am happy with these Rich & Skinny "Hi Rise" Jeans in a 27 (fit 2-3 inches below belly button so I cannot imagine where a low rise would fall). I am 5' 7" with a 34 inch inseam (no hemming required). They were $60 on sale with a 20% off coupon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004H3X1RU/ref=wms_ohs_product

There are darker wash versions too:

http://www.amazon.com/Rich-Skinny-Womens-Flare-Shadows/dp/B005EEQGMS/ref=sr_1_2?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1317921971&sr=1-2

In Gap jeans, I wear a size 2 or 4 (1969 or Long & Lean midrise). Old Navy Dreamer jeans also fit me well and you cannot beat the price.

Premium jeans come in petite lengths now. The last pair of Sevens I bought were petite length and perfect for me. I am 5'4". I can wear them with flats (folded once) or with a 2-21/2" heel. I loved saving the cost of hemming, plus the bootcut doesnt get all messed up with cutting a few inches off the bottom of the jean.

I dont usually have the time to go to the store to try on stuff so I just order from a place with free shipping. My favs are COH and Sevens. I have in the past gotten only bootcut. However, I have recently discovered skinny. I never thought I could wear them (I have big thighs) but I am really loving them with boots this fall...maternity no less!
Here are a couple of links to petite jeans.

Hitting Nordstroms is on my list to try upper end jeans in the next month or so but for me, Lucky Brand Sweet and Low are my fav. They consistently fit good, They're a midrise boot cut and always come in different washes and lengths.

As far as the hemming goes, I just read up about keeping the original hem when they tailor jeans, I'll have to try it.

What kind, and what size do you wear in Lucky? IIRC, we're about the same size. I wear sz 4 in Gap perfect boot jeans and sz 2 in their long and lean. The size 4 Anthropologie cords fit me well. I think I am about a 26-27 waist.

I love the look of the Dita bootcuts and have had them in my cart for weeks. But I need a sale or discount code to pull the trigger on them! The 7 ones look great too. I forget, can you get a discount code at Piperlime by subscribing to their list or something?

Not the prior poster, but I have worn as small as an 8 in Lucky Brand (pre DD1), and am now in 14, but am close to getting back into a 12. Their jeans remind me a lot of Gap jeans because one style I can wear one size and in the other I can wear a different size. If you can I would still recommend physically going into the store and seeing what fits you unless you really know you want the Easy Rider (which is online only). I much prefer jean shopping in the store because you can grab as many pairs of jeans as you want, and there is the instant gratification thing:). Most times when I have shopped Lucky I have brought in about 20 pairs of jeans because no two jeans seem to fit the same. I also think that you could probably pull off some skinny jeans; I for sure can't, but from the way you describe yourself I think you can:thumbsup: And I have yet to find a pair of Anthro. pants that aren't yoga pants (from 2005) that fit me well so I say go for the skinny jeans:)

Go to Loehmann's. They usually have a pretty decent selection of Citizens (and other designer brand) jeans. Nordstrom has these Dita COH jeans for only $172 (http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/citizens-of-humanity-dita-bootcut-stretch-jeans-wonder-wash-petite/3078413?origin=category&resultback=1875), and it also looks like they have some other bootcuts for less than the Piperlime prices (which I think are insanely high most of the time, and it's rare that there is a PL coupon unless you have a Gap rewards certificate)

I think I have some weird sensory processing issue, because I cannot.stand.skinny.jeans against my skin. I can't even wear Hanna mama PJs because they are so fitted all the way down to the ankles. Gives me the shivers just thinking about it. Fitted on my upper legs is OK, but against my calves for some reason drives me bananas. And while I'm a sz 4, I am a pear shape so my hips get in the way of skinny jeans! ;)

Yes, they will email you a code if its a new address. I dont think I have paid more than 130 for any of my premium jeans. I usually wait for one of the dept stores F&F events or similar.

I can wear a 4/6 in Gap or a 6/8 in Lucky, both sizes fit me now as I'm fighting a few pounds. I'd bet you're a 6 or 4, I'd say one size up from your 'most likely to fit' gap jean size.

I just bought Banana Republic skinny jeans and I got size 25 - does BR sizing run the same as Gap? I haven't bought Gap jeans apart from when I was pregnant and then post-partum. I wear size 26 Lucky jeans (and 27, I have both from my post-partum days after the Gap jeans, and I removed the tags so I don't remember which is which).

My jeans fit me very tightly after washing them, but I think you have to size down or you end up with a saggy butt after half an hour.

Do you have a Lucky store? There is one in the local mall here. So if you meet us tomorrow you could stop off. Anthro is right there too!

Didn't answer what kind. I don't remember but I think Lola is what I will buy from now on.

If you are a pear, I think you should look at boot cut jeans to balance the hips. And I've recently discovered that the darker the jean, the better I look. Sadly I don't have many dark jeans in my closet and I don't know if I can justify getting rid of the ones I have.

I find se7ens to be pretty TTS but it also depends on how you like them to fit. I like mine pretty fitted since they start to stretch later.

For that inseam, try the se7en Lexie A pocket (petite length) http://www.7forallmankind.com/A_POCKET_FLARE_WITH_CONTOUR_WAIST_IN_NEW_YORK_DARK _SHORT_INSEAM/pd/c/4020/np/4020/p/2877.html

Or, Joe's provocateur (petite length)

For a long time my favorite were Citizen's of humanity. I still really like COH but in the past couple of years I've branched out to J Brand, AG, Paige and True Religion.

J Brand and AG are my favorites besides the COH. True Religion are fun but I'm kind of over the saggy butt look.
