My son cannot wear anything with flame retardent chemicals. I buy him the snug fitting organic pj's from costco but he needs pj bottoms for activities like pj day at school. He is 8 and does not want to wear the snug pj's to school. I bought a hand made pair of flannel pj's from etsy a few years ago but the picking on etsy are very slim right now.....any suggestions? Thanks!

Many department stores and probably even Target should have some inexpensive flannel pj pants.
For example at JCP

What about just wearing a thinner pair of sweatpants?

I can't tell if these pants are treated with a flame resistant chemical or the fabric itself (polyester) is flame resistant:

He would like to be able to wear pj's bottoms like the rest of the kids....I believe LE pants do contain chemical. I found more options at etsy by searching under "lounge pants."

Wow! I admittedly haven't really paid attention to this (my boys still wear snug fit pjs) and am surprised to find that eventhough they are labeled "flannel" pants that doesn't necessarily mean cotton. Those LE pants PP linked come to mind. What is the "rule" on this? At what size/age do pajamas not have to be flame resistant if they are loose fit cotton?

You could also buy some cotton flannel or fleece and have pants made. I used someone on hyenacart.com last year and they were DS favorite pants.

I haven't check on the "rule" either....DS wears size 7/8 and all the ones I have checked still have the chemicals.....

I just did a live chat with the LE customer service/personal shopping department. She said it was the polyester was flame resistant. Flame resistance in kids' jammies drives me insane, this is definitely one of my "issues." Here is the transcript of my conversation:

Alice, your Personal Shopper : Welcome to Lands' End! My name is Alice, your personal Shopper. How may I assist you?
customer : Are the boys flannel pajama pants treated with a chemical to become flame resistant or is the polyester inherently flame resistant? thanks.
Alice, your Personal Shopper : I will be happy to check on that for you. One moment, please.
Alice, your Personal Shopper : The flame resistance come from being 100% polyester.
customer : So no chemicals are used, correct?
Alice, your Personal Shopper : That is my understanding, but if you want an more definative answer I have a link you can use to ask the question.

I don't know anything about this source, but this article states that polyester is flame resistant:
