I'm making soup for dinner tonight. I put the chicken to boil before lunch and it is now cooked. I'm not planning to add the other ingredients until tonight. Should I pull the chicken out of the stock and refrigerate? Leave it in the soup on the stove simmering on low? Leave it in the soup and turn off the stove? Seems like common sense but I don't know what the right answer is. TIA

I would take the chicken out and refrigerate. If the chicken is in very small pieces or shredded, I'd simmer on low all day. (Simply because it would be easier than fishing out tiny pieces of chicken.) I wouldn't recommend letting it sit with the burner off all day- that's inviting trouble.

HTH!
