I'm a size 18 and IDSO a decent quality fall jacket.
I've been borrowing DH's ancient North Face Denali but he wants it back - I'd like something similar. Doesn't have to be fleecy, but it'd be nice if it's simple, not too padded, warm enough for crisp autumn days. Help!

I have bought men's fleece (Columbia) from Kohl's. I sold it on CL for a few bucks, and another woman came to pick it up. I don't think it's unusual for women to buy men's fleece outerwear. I hate super fitted fleece. Did you check on 6pm? They have free ship now (not free returns), and they carry North Face, Columbia, Patagonia, etc.

ETA: of course, if you can find women's that would be better, as I think it would fit better in the shoulders/arm length.

Have you checked Lands End? They have coats in plus sizes. Some cute ones, too.

ETA: They have an additonal 25% off now through Wednesday on outerwear.

Another rec for LE. Definitely buy two sizes because their stuff runs on the large side. This is cute (note that it is not available at this instant but it ships November 14):

I'm a big fan of the Lands End coats too. I have a swing coat which is great because I can wear it pregnant or not :bighand:

This is a huge departure from fleece, but somehow I ended up here after trailing something in Momwear and want to post just in case somebody else is looking for a dressier coat in plus.

Update - I ended up getting the LL Bean Wind Challenger fleece. It's thinner than a typical fleece but warmer and wind proof. And for what it is, it looks reasonably nice - it has a shape to it. I got the purple and I sized up (2X). Usually I am floating in LL Bean 2X but this fits just right. http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/56674?feat=2-SR0&productId=929429

Thanks for all the suggestions, I know I am not fashionable :) posting an update for the ladies like me who want practical and sporty and simple.

I like it! And it does look like it has a nice shape . Always good to have more warmth w/ less bulk.

Just saw this thread and was coming to post this jacket. I have it and love it. We had a very windy cold day here on Fri and not a bit of wind got through. It is very warm and I like the fact it is not bulky.
