I want to get DD a new game for Christmas, I say its for her but really its for me. I am so bored with all the games we have for her, most were hand me downs from DS plus they are all pretty mind numbing. She loves playing them and we have most of the favorites; Candyland, Candyland Casino (I mean Castle), Shoots and Ladders, Zingo, Cariboo Island, Memory, Hi Ho Cheery O, and Busytown. I would love something new so shoot some ideas my way. I'm sure other will appreciate it too.
Thanks

Ds2 loves Spot It. Bonus is that it's fun to play with him and we are almost on equal footing to win!:

My parents just sent my son "Where is sock monkey" My son loves it and asks to play it multiple times a day.

We like Yahtzee Jr too

I Spy Preschool

We also have a Pinkalicious Cup Cake Party Game that we got as a gift. I thought would be ridiculous - but it's actually pretty OK. It asks for creative answers (i.e. 'make up a song about going to school' or 'draw your favorite animal'). DD likes it, and it's one of the few that I don't mind. I saw it on Amazon for $30 and it's certainly not worth that, but $15 or under and I'd buy another one for the gift closet.

I just put Spot It in my Amazon cart - that looks like fun!

Thanks for starting this thread. DS is just starting to get into games and these seem like great suggestions.

Haba Orchard!
Hiss is FABULOUS!
Ravensburger's Snail's Pace Race (Careful there are two games with this name)

Cranium Hullabaloo

On our list this year that might have worked last year is:
Haba Animal Upon Animal
Kids of Carcassone

Try puzzles instead for a bit? I find all games that are simple enough for toddlers to bore me senseless. I would gladly pay someone to play Chutes and ladders and Candyland with F. Whenever the games get too dull, I pull out the puzzles which F just loves to pieces.

I disagree on Memory though. I think that is really interesting.

A lot of the less common toddler games are just variations on the ones you listed. Like Orchard and Hi Ho Cherrio. You have either a spinner or a stack of cards. These things dictate where to go. Some involve numbers. Some colors. Some words. It all gets old after awhile.

I'm pulling up this old thread to let people know that I found this sock monkey game for $9.xx at Walmart, their regular price I guess. It was $14.xx at TRU and B&N and over $20 on Amazon. Just wanted to let anyone else who might be interested know :)

I can't attest to how it is yet but we just bought DD this for the holidays:

I would have suggested most of the ones you mentioned (Zingo and Busytown and regular Cariboo are her favorites!) but this one got good reviews and I think both DCs will love the puppies. I'm hoping it's a big hit!

On DS2's wishlist I have:

Go Away Monster
Count Your Chickens
Orchard

We have these games already and he likes them but can't play by the rules yet (he's only 2 1/2).

We have a card game version of Orchard.

A few for Christmas/birthday coming soon-
Chutes and Ladders
Eeboo Dominos (a consignment find)
A card game that you can play old maid/gofish/and 3 other games that escape me.
Travel bingo (we don't have a portable DVD player as we live in the dark ages of technology) for road trips to the beach and around the state.
