My DH's birthday is coming up. He always talks about how he had lego sets as a kid. When we are at Target he sometimes looks at them and thinks how cool they are. Looking over the lego website is confusing.

What set is pretty cool, detailed, big that an adult may like? No Harry Potter, not sure about Star Wars.

I don't know about a bigger set, but every year my DH gets a bionicle for Christmas. He has them displayed in the "man room". It is his favorite stocking stuffer.

Well, if he likes star wars you can get him the very impressive death star, lol. It's a lot of $$$. If he is a fan of frank lloyd wright, then you should get him one of these sets...

I don't have any advice, but I wanted to show my support--I think this is an awesome and really thoughtful idea :bighand: I'm sure he'll love it!

Would he like Lego Mindstorms? I bought a set today for $200 (before tax) at Barnes and Noble using a 30% off coupon for joining the kids' club.

I love the modular sets- the grand emporium, fire house, and pet shop are currently available. And then there's this: http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Tower-Bridge-10214
I think it's very cool.

What about some of the architecture series, they say 16 and up, so may be more challenging for adults.

The architecture sets are cool if he's into that. The smaller sets are relatively easy to build so I would definitely go with the bigger sets. I really like them myself. My boys have already built the John Hancock Tower, Empire State Building, and Seattle Space Needle. I have stored downstairs the Guggenheim, White House, and Fallingwater.

Here are some other cool sets.

Wow, I never realized there were so many options. We only have random legos from garage sales. I also didn't realize how expensive they could be. I guess I didn't really mean that big, some of those sets are huge. I didn't want to spend more than $100.

My DH loves cars. I think he would like the Technics Supercar, but I'm hesitant to buy him a lego set with more than 1000 pieces. I don't know when he would have time.

Ooo, just saw the motorbike (467 pieces), maybe he would like that. Do all stores (Target/TRU) sell these, or should I buy online? There is a LEGO store nearby as well.

Thank you for all the suggestions.

BTW, do not search the words, "Legos for Adults", it wasn't what I expected.

I love the modular buildings, but they are quite big and take a while to build.

How about starting a tradition with the Holiday set? I really love these:

Toy Shop http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Winter-Toy-Shop-10199
Winter Bakery http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Winter-Village-Bakery-10216
Post office http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Winter-Village-Post-Office-10222

They make really cute winter/holiday decorations. The Toy Shop is the oldest and could be retired after this year as this is the third year it has been sold.

I also like the Creator Houses... http://search2.lego.com/exec/?q=hillside%20house&pt=&lang=2057&cc=US&u=

They are 3 in 1 so you can build 1 of 3 so 3 times the fun!

The fun with Legos is in the building process. My 8-year-old son built this car for the first time in less than 2 hours and it has 554 pieces. So if you want him to have fun for longer than that, a bigger set would be in order IMO.

The Advent calendars are out. That could be a fun way to start, and see how he likes them.
