Translucent or opaque?

Is the 100 piece set enough for starters? I'm thinking of these as DS1's (4.5) big Christmas gift (not sure yet if it will be his "want" gift from us or if this will be what Santa brings).

Translucent. More fun to be Abe to see through structures

Definitely translucent. I think the 100 piece set is a good set to start with.

If you can find them, buy them SOON! The factory flooded and is out of stock until some time in January

I just got a 100 piece set from Amazon for $98 shipped. The PP's post about them being in short supply put me in a panic!

look on the right side for more buying choices - there's a drop down for a translucent set for $90

I see it now. Seller only has one rating in the past 12 months...trying to decide if I should pull the trigger.

The seller,ReachOutJesus, has only one "feedback score", that makes me nervous. Any thoughts?

Stacy, we are both on point tonight!;)

I am not feeling it, the feedback came from a generic sounding name, and is Jesus in the name to make us feel safer?

I canceled my order - that seller did look sketchy and the Jesus in the seller's name made me feel yucky.

Plus the ship date I was given was into December, I didn't want to be waiting for something that may not come and miss a real deal.

Unfortunately I think y'all are right. Usually when a deal sounds too good to be true...

I think that was a good choice!

$130 is the best otherwise. The fact that they are coming out with new stuff early next year... DD would be fine with getting some after the holiday's she is still young enough. Maybe it will be worth the wait?

Have you heard of magformers? A neighbor had the magnatiles and my son would get very frustrated with them because the magnets aren't all that strong and his structures would fall apart too easily. I found magformers last christmas on qvc and went with those. I got a set and my parents got him a set. They have been a big hit and are much easier to handle. If anything the magnets are too strong and are sometimes hard for my 2 year old to pull apart.

I made a light table a couple months ago and it would be nice to have the magnatiles now but I still like the magformers more.

Check your local independent toy stores. Mine carries the 100 piece translucent (many carry only the 50, not as good of a deal per piece). I bought 2 100 piece sets at different times with a 25 percent off coupon, bringing it down
Into the 90's. If your local toy store carries them or could do an order and they put out coupons, then def check there.
