DD wants to do a craft party for her 7th b day.

We looked into having it at Michael's, but our local store will not rent out their party room in November or December, so she would have to wait until January, about a month after her birthday. Alternatively, we could host it at home.

Any thoughts? We were thinking about fabric painting canvas totebags - they have some nice stencils, etc. Our home is reasonably large.

I love at home parties and that theme sounds totally do-able at home. I usually keep at home parties on the smaller size, simply for my sanity. :)

That sounds reasonable to do at home! We ordered canvas bags (http://www.discountschoolsupply.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?product=17251&keyword=bags&scategoryid=0&CategorySearch=&Brand=&Price=) from Discount School Supply for DS2's birthday, then used these books (http://www.amazon.com/What-Shall-Draw-Do-Today/dp/0794503756/ref=pd_sim_b_2) and these fabric markers (http://www.discountschoolsupply.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?Product=7532&rec=PDHtop). The moms took a time out from the yard activities (dads were on duty) and came in to do a mom-craft that held the rest of the goody bag munchies. It was definitely one of our favorite goody bag ideas for a party.

I'd probably just use some tablecloths/floor coverings if it isn't easy to be wiped up, then alternate some other activities like playing in another room so you can clean up and prep the table for cake after the craft is done.
