Between the 33 guests attending Thanksgiving at our house, we own LOTS of crockpots- there must be a good way to put them to work and keep that precious oven space free. I'm already planning on getting a roaster oven for one of the turkeys, based on the positive reviews here. What are your best side dishes that can be done in a crockpot?

Cheesy potatos

2lb package frozen hashbrowns
16 oz sour cream
1 can of cream of chicken soup
1 small onion
2 C shredded cheese

Just throw it in the crockpot a few hours prior to your meal.

I will add cream of mushroom soup too if I'm making a big batch which you might have to do since you are serving 33 people. I also omit the onions sometimes depending on my guest.

Have you had luck with that crockpot stuffing? I made it a couple of years ago and no matter how much liquid I added and despite cooking it on low, the edges were all burnt and the stuffing was gummy. One of my Thanksgiving fails. :( If you've made it, I'd love any tips on making it work!

I'm making a make ahead mashed potato recipe similar to the Pioneer Woman's recipe. Rather than bake it for 30 mins at 350, it's going to go in a crock pot.
Or this recipe has you bake it the day before and then put in crockpot to warm it up - I might do it that way.

I'm sorry to hear it hasn't worked for you. If it's coming out gummy I wonder if it ended up with too much liquid? I've made it two years in a row now and it's come out fine. I start out with about one cup of chicken broth, just enough to moisten it initially. I also check it every hour to add more broth as needed and give it a quick stir to keep it cooking evenly and avoid it burning at the edges. I also found it was ready a lot sooner than expected based on the recipe.

Those are good tips, I will try it again! Thank you :)
