How long do you keep your child in a 5 point vs HBB and seat belt? I have a 5.5 yr old in a Fronteir and we currently use the 5 point harness. We do have a booster for the other car that he rides in. Just curious. Thanks!

I moved DS1 at just over 6. That was largely because it was when we got a minivan and no longer had 3 across in a Malibu.

DD is 5.5 and is harnessed. I will move her to a HBB this spring, just before she turns 6. We have some seats retiring and I will move her Frontier to DH's car so that 2 kids can ride in there and I'll get her a booster.

DS2 just got a brand new Frontier so he might be harnessed forever :).

DS was 6 1/2 when I switched him full-time to a HBB. I could have kept him harnessed a while longer, but chose to let him booster train in the summer rather than the fall/winter. Plus, he is 49 inches and 57 lbs right now.

DD1 just turned 6 and is still harnessed. She is a lightweight though, and just hit 40lb within the last month. Not sure yet when we'll switch to a booster, but she will stay harnessed at least through the winter.

DD just switched a little after she turned 7. She was riding in a Regent.

I think it depends on the size of the child. DS was harnessed until shortly before he turned 8. He is petite and light.

DS1 is also 5 1/2 and still harnessed in his Frontier 85. He'll stay that way until he gets too tall for the harnesses.

I just moved my younger two out of their Frontier and Regent this summer. One was 9 and one was 6.5. Both were about 60ish lbs.

DS1 moved when he was 6. He was 50 inches and 55 lbs on his annual 6 year check up and he was ready. He has been sitting very well in his seat.

DD is 5.5 yrs old and in a Frontier 85. She's still not quite 35 pounds fully clothed. She will be harnessed for a long time. And she actually likes her harness. She's in a booster in my DH's car (for VERY short car rides to the doughnut shop on Sunday mornings), and while she liked the booster seat she prefers her Frontier and doesn't complain about the harness.
