Can this be done successfully?

I'd love to wear them with black leggings, or with a black skirt like this one I just got from athleta: http://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=8187670520022&cid=46812&locale=en_US. I am wearing it right now with the boots and the silhouette really works, but unsure of the color combo and what to wear with it.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Sure. The key will be the accessories and adding a jacket/shawl, sweater to tie the outfit together. Here are some ideas:

i have a (cute) friend who pulls that combo off really well...she usually does 2 brown and 1 black or vice versa, like brown boots and shirt and a black skirt, maybe with a fun color of cami or tank peaking out.

They seriously go together (as neutral) and it's just some weird stigma that they don't. But since they are two dark, flat colors I'd be sure to put a color sweater over your top or maybe belt the top, wear some fun bracelets. I'd add something to *pop* the outfit but yes, 100%, it matches and works, imo.

Thanks, ladies! I am thinking of wearing my brown Fryes with a black skirt for Thanksgiving tomorrow, and am contemplating my options for tops. I have a fitted ivory v-neck sweater, so maybe that with some chocolate accessories? Hmmm. Perhaps I should go shopping.
