update: i went to the dr. they gave me gauze and a gauze sock? and a rx for silvadene. pain has subsided and i have huge nasty blisters on my thigh (i was wearing pj shorts when it happened). thank goodness for my old navy fold over skirts! i am just glad that none of my babies were on the floor in the kitchen. thanks everyone.

about an hour ago, while I was making coffee, I spilled boiling water on my thigh. now the outer half of my thigh is red and swollen, skin still intact. I sat in a tub of cold water for about 20 min. but when I got out the pain just surged with a vengeance and I just took acetaminophen. covered with gauze. do I need to see a dr?

Yes. At least have it looked at and get a prescription for burn cream.

For a large area like that, probably. Must cover it regardless. Treat it like a wound.

Yes, do NOT mess with burns. The pain you describe is a good sign, nerves are not damaged, but you need to have it properly inspected and dressed. Skin is a delicate organ, you don't want to mess with infection or deterioration.

Glad you are ok! Yes, you are right, cooling down the site with water is exactly what you should do for a burn where the skin is not obviously broken. Scalding burns can be very serious, you are lucky it was as minor as it was.

Glad you're OK! Hope it doesn't bother you too much tonight/tomorrow, maybe keep up the OTC pain meds so you can keep ahead of it a bit.
