so the elenco one gets horrible reviews....and the others in the 65.00 plus price range get great reviews but are for older kids.....this the only big item DD has has asked for....any advice??? TIA

I had one. They take so long between steps that I lost interest. I think mine is somewhere in my parent's basement still filled with the rocks and polishing sand I put in there 30 years ago :bag

I remember looking into them last year for DS1 when he was 7 and passed because of all the bad reviews. I'm thinking of getting this for DS1 this year:

It's not a rock tumbler, but is related, has much better reviews, and is super cheap!

We got one last summer but have yet to use it. Sorry, I don't recall the brand. Ds1 was so excited, but I read through all the directions and it takes more than a month of continuously running the machine to get through all three steps from rough rock to polished stone. And there are all these dire warnings about removing all grit from stage one before adding water and grit for stage 2, etc. Forget it!

:yeahthat: That's exactly what happened to me. It turned into a brick of cement when I finally went and checked on it.
