Dear Babycenter.com,

I was just looking at your fertility calculator and you felt the need to PUBLISH a potential due date as an action on Facebook. I did not sign into your site with Facebook and never gave you permission to connect up with it and tell my both my grandma and my high school friends that I might try for a baby soon.

Social networking FAIL.

Signed,
One woman who will never be using your site again

** I considered putting this in the Bitching post section but thought this section might be a better warning for others who might encounter the same thing!

Wow. I would complain to babycenter. TTC is a private thing, not something you want to post on FB!!! Eww

I wrote them an email describing what happened and asking them to change the website behavior immediately and let me know when they are done. I'll never use their site again but it would be nice to know if they actually do something about it. I'd send a message to FB too but I have a nagging feeling no one there would care.

I also double-checked all of my FB privacy settings. I didn't find anything obvious bu t tweaked several settings to theoretically improve security.

My mind is still reeling with all of the horrible outcomes this could cause for women. Can you imagine the teenager who looks up pregnancy info before she tells her parents or the rape victim considering an abortion?

I'm kinda curious whether it would still post anything with the adjusted settings but there's no way I'm getting near the site again myself to try!

That is awful! If it got on your FB and someone actually saw it...I would just say your account was hacked! Which isn't outright lying in this case!

wow. that is horrible! :( i can't imagine why babycenter site would do that...i mean, that makes NO sense..WHO wants to publicize to the world when they are starting to TTC, and possible due date...eek. thanks for posting. now i am going to be super vigilant on my fb site and what other sites i use that may connect to it.

That is absolutely appalling. I am SO sorry.

A note to all: please be very very careful about turning off FB apps for everything - you can select that as an option in your FB privacy settings. Even so, FB still manages to intrude into one's privacy. The OP's experience is unthinkable. I'm thinking: sue FB!
