I am finished getting my kids Christmas gifts (and birthday for that matter). They have birthdays in Feb and March, so I tend to buy a lot now during the sales and divy up the loot between Christmas and their birthday.

DD1 is 5.5yrs old. For Christmas, I got her this:
- littlest pet shop tree house and extra pets (she loves littlest pet shop and this would be expanding some she already has
- magnatiles
- a remote controlled car
- a cash register
- Boris the T-Rex from Dinosaur Trail is coming from my sister
- some M&D play food because I am building them a play kitchen for Christmas (mainly this is for my younger daughter though).
- She will be getting the LIttlest pet shop Rescue Tails center from our friends.

BUT...her favorite animal is the penguin, and her favorite color is blue. I got her a penguin necklace as a stocking stuffer. BUT she KEEPS talking about this blue penguin (http://www.amazon.com/iloveRobots-Penbo-Interactive-Lovable-Penguin/dp/B005YU9IC2/ref=wl_it_dp_o_npd?ie=UTF8&coliid=I3RELTVNO3QA0R&colid=KGEJ67LPUSQ1)and how MUCH she wants it. Constantly. But it's $60! I didn't spend more than $28 on anything I got her (besides the magnatiles - and even that was on a good sale) because I managed to find great deals on it all.

WWYD?? Spend it and get her what she seems to really want? Take something back and "swap it out" for one of the other gifts? I know she would love the LIttlest Pet shop stuff...but I also know she's getting some from our BFFs. I don't think grandparents are willing to spend this amount for one toy for her. Perhaps try to do half with the grandparents for it?

Help!

She's very specific about the penguin having the egg! She wants the mama and the bebe penguin. It wouldn't fly.

She has specified this baby: http://www.amazon.com/iloveRobots-Penbo-Interactive-Penguin-Bebe/dp/B0040V33WM/ref=pd_sim_sbs_t_18

I do have to say - I'm reading all the reviews I can find on this toy, and it's getting a LOT of love from both kids and parents. The kids are all around my daughter's age, and the parents are all saying it's a very durable, quality toy - which makes me feel a little better about the price.

and return something else you bought.

Or do what we did, we got something on great sale, then saw something that DS really wants on sale elsewhere. So the first present is being kept for another occasion - it was 50% and I rarely see that.

If she really wants it, and you can afford it, I would get it for her. Unfortunately sometimes the magic of the season can be expensive!

I might keep the LIttlest Pest Shop tree house for her birthday in March, since I know she's getting the Rescue Tails Center.

Tell me about it!! :ROTFLMAO: The stuff we do for our kids!

I'd probably get her what she so desperately wants & then save one of the other things (probably the littlest pet shop thing) for her birthday or something else.

You can get a slight discount if you buy it directly from Brookstone. Brookstone is offering free shipping through tonight and $10 off a $50 purchase -- code is 50CYBER. Or you may be able to get 20 percent off with code RETAILME20 (Code was posted on Retailmenot.com -- don't know if it works).
