All the Amazon ones get "eh" reviews. I'd prefer something with no sound. Originally, I wanted to get her the kind with the lens covers that make shapes, but those got particularly poor reviews. Does anyone have a kids flashlight they like?

Same problem here for my 4.5 year old. I decided to add a real flashlight to his wish list. I picked this LED one from smith and wesson (http://www.amazon.com/Smith-Wesson-Galaxy-12-LED-Flashlight/dp/B000WCTXUY) that can switch between white, red, blue and green. I haven't seen it in person yet but I have no doubt he is going to love it.

We like the Little Tikes' ones but they make sounds.

I haven't seen the ikea ones but the crank up ones are a nice idea. It at least saves on batteries. I got one for everyone's stocking last year from mamabargains. Amazon has the same one here (http://www.amazon.com/Lucky-Bums-Dynamo-Flashlight-Pink/dp/B005FUDJYE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322746714&sr=8-1) but it was only $6 or so from mamabargains and it came in blue or pink. They held up pretty well for the year. One of the handles broke but its still useable. The other 3 are still as good as new but ds want's a more traditional on/off (no cranking required) flashlight this year.

I got my 2 yo this one from Target, he loves it and it is easy to use:

You click to change from flashlight, solid glowstick or flashing glowstick.

Lula loves playing with a flashlight and the best one we've had by far was a cheapie Disney Princess one he picked up at Walmart. It has a push button and a regular slide button combined. That push button has probably saved us $$$$$$$$ in batteries!

I was going to suggest this also. The reviews are really good.

The first link is to the crank flashlight on Amazon. It looks like it is now sold out at REI. The second link is to the regular flashlight on Amazon--they still have this at REI with free shipping. Reviews on both are great. There is also a lantern, which is the third link, and it's still available at REI.

I am feeling a bit silly now since I have now admitted that ds is getting a new flashlight for xmas and already has 2 perfectly good functioning ones mentioned here. Anyway the one above has been great for us. I bought one for each child for halloween they were about $5 a piece on base here. I love the glow part. This way they can use them in the car and no one gets a flashlight in their eyes. Warning there is a whistle on the end. I left the tape on so it took my ds 2 weeks to find it but he has since found it and uses it often UGH.

The crank light was a little less than $12 at REI. On REI, you can search "Lego" and all of the available flashlights come up.

Yes! Thank you! Just snapped up the cheaper one (the $9) one.... and free ship!

I was really wanting a crank light (no Ikea closeby) and was eyeing these. DS2 is really going to love it, as he plays with our regular flashlight all the time and I hate that we go through batteries so much.

Is there any difference between the one with the yellow arms/legs and the blue arms/legs? Just wondering why the yellow armed/legged one was cheaper.

I saw the crank ones at ikea and wasn't to hot for them. DS has a CARS one, but yeah, it has batteries.
