a friend sold me her iphone 4. i currently have a 3gs and want to turn that into an ipod touch for DD, and use the iphone 4 as my phone.

how do i go about doing this? do i have to take the phone to at&t? or can i just put the sim card from the 3gs into the 4?

I'm pretty sure you don't need to do anything. My husband upgraded from the 3 to the 4 and the 3 is now an ipod touch. he didn't do anything at all. it still has his information on it and works with wifi.

Just swap the sim and leave the 3gs simless and you are good to go. You will want to spend sometime removing app you use and adding in some kid stuff if you like.

i thought it would be as easy as swapping the sim cards, but the 4 uses a smaller sim then the 3gs. i suppose i will call the at&t store later today.

You'll have to call AT&T to activate your new phone under your account, but otherwise you're all set. Here's an article from Apple:

:yeahthat:

remember to check on your data plan. If you have unlimited make sure you keep it so you are grandfathered in, etc. (I always say it doesn't hurt to double check).

I put the iPhone that DS uses in airplane mode so he can't be on the internet.
