A friend has a 6yo DD with Down Syndrome. She is planning on getting her an Ipad for Christmas to help with speech therapy. Any apps you would recommend? Free or otherwise. Her ST recommended "proloque" but that is $200. She will get it for her if need be, but the Ipad is already pretty pricey for her.

TIA!!!!

What are her verbal skills now?

Here's a thread from a while back where I gave descriptions of the language apps we have on DS's ipad.

Great link! I think that will help a lot. Here is a rundown from my friend:

She can repeat words well. She does 2 word phrases but not sentences yet. We’re trying to get her to say for example ‘I want juice’ instead of ‘juice’. She said this morning, ‘go outside’ when she saw the snow which is good that she placed a verb in front of 2 word phrase. She’s learning her sight words right now but I think some of the programs help put sentences/phrases together on the ipad which is needed. Her singular vocabulary is very good naming objects for example.

I work in a social communication class in the local elementary school and we use proloquo. It really is a great program! I really hope someone can help you find an affordable alternative because 200 is a lot!!

The Moms With Apps website has a whole page devoted to apps for special needs kids:

Several of the apps listed are for speech/communication.
