My son is 3 years old and wore the Keens sandals in size 11 over the summer. What size would you order for him for next summer? (He'll be 4 years old then). Would you order size 12 or 13?? Hurry-- tell me fast before this deal dies!

Quick! I need to know what size to order for DS! We live in FL so he can wear these pretty much year round. He's in a 10 now and has been for quite a while. should i get an 11? How do they run? TTS?

I think they run a tad bit small. My son measured around a size 10 in the store, but when they tried the Keens in 10 on him, they were tight. So the store recommended the size 11, which we went with. He wore them for about 3 months, and then by the end of the summer, they were getting tight on him. He's 3 years old-- so yea, he has Big feet:)

I checked my email records, and ds has reliably gone up one size per year (age 3 size 11, age 4 size 12, age 5 size 13, and age 6 size 1), so I'm ordering size 2 for next summer.

Keens tend to run small.

Thanks for your sizing history! Since your child (like mine) seems to have big feet, I'll go up just one size for next year as well..

Which is better for 4.5 yo DS...Newport H2 or Newport Hook and Loop? the only difference I see is that H2 has a closed back.

We've never done Keens....are all the sandles recommended or a particular style? I'm a little torn on sizes too. They wear 11 now and I would normally order 12 but I'm afraid if they run small they might not fit!

Thanks! Great deal!

In terms of sizing recommendations, I agree with PPs that they do tend to run a bit small. DD wears an 8 now, so I'm ordering her a 9 in the Keens. She usually goes up a half size every 3 months, so I figure she should be around a 9 next summer. (She had size 7 Keens last summer, and they were tight on her by the end of the summer, so I figure she would have been in an 8 at the end of the summer so figuring a 9 for next summer... hopefully I've predicted correctly! :-) )

I like the closed back on the H2 - more support / less chance of pebbles/grass getting stuck inside.

I will also add that IMO the (newports at least) don't work for wide chubby feet. They are too hard to get on.

I am confused about the post. SO you can only get 10% off right. The post said it stacked with other codes. I bought my DS keens once and he hated them. So I will may regret this. Although he cant wear flip flops to school. So hopefully he will wear. thanks

So if DD is in an 8.5 now should I go with a 9 or 10 Keen?

Depends on if she's at the beginning of 8.5 or the end... I've never done half sizes, so DD stays in each size for 4-6 months. Her feet grow slow :) I'd be afraid the 10s would be too big before August, but I'm not sure. Sorry. No help.

Well... after a lot of thinking, I went with 2 sizes up for next summer for my 3.5 year old. He was wearing size 11 during the summer-- they started off a little loose, but by the end of the summer they were already too tight. So he should already be wearing a size 12 in the Keens right now. So I went for a size 13 for next summer, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that his feet do indeed continue to grow at the rate they've been growing. Lets see...

Keens run whole sizes only so if your DD wore them today, you would probably get them in a 9. So if you want them to be a little bigger, then I would think you would want to order a 10. Of course, this is just a guess, and maybe the 9 will be better.

DS wears an 8.5 in stride rites right now. I measured his foot and it's 15.5 cm. according to the Keen chart a size 10 is 16.8 cm and an 11 is 17.7. It doesn't look that far from his toe to 16.8. , should a get an 11 or do you think a 10 will be ok? We can't wear sandals here till June.

Just wanted to note for all of you trying Keens for the first time, they can definitley get STINKY after awhile, but they are machine washable (and come out great!). A trick I've found is that after you wash them, sprinkle a little baking soda in them while they're still wet and let them dry out, then brush off the baking soda. That really helps them to smell good again. We washed ours several times last summer, and they still looked almost new after washing at the end of the summer.

This. An overnight soak in unscented Oxiclean and then a run through the washing machine make them look (and smell!) like new.

The saleslady at Nordstrom last year told me the key is wash before they get smelly and dry them in the sun, something in the sole is activated in the sun to prevent/kill smells. I washed mine about once every other week and this us the first time we didn't have smell issues.

Thanks for posting! I think I am debating between the Whisper and the H2. If my DD is in size 12/13 in most brands (Umi, North Face), should I get a 13 or a 1?

DD2 is about a sz 4. Do you think sz 5 will be safe for next summer?

When you gals say that the Keens run small, does that mean that the sizing chart on the Keen website is also small and therefore not really accurate? I measured both DSs' feet this afternoon, but I'm having a hard time trying to decide which size to buy, since everyone keeps saying that these shoes run small. I don't want to have to pay for return shipping if the shoes don't fit.

Yeah, we're an all-Keen family, too! This year will be DS' first for getting a pair (he's 1)... I got him a size 6 for spring/ summer (he's currently in about a 4-4.5 Pediped or 6-12 month)... I also have a pair of 7's left over from DD two years ago. She's pretty reliably gone up 2 sizes each summer (though she's a fast grower); started at a 7 her first summer (about 15 months old), then a 9 last summer, and I got her an 11 for this summer.

Thanks for posting the deal, OP! I got DD two pair from Endless' sale last August (planning to return whichever pair didn't fit by this coming summer), but this deal is slightly better, plus I needed to get a pair for DS and return at least one of her pairs from Endless anyhow. :)

This is super helpful, b/c DD2 (18 months) is in size 12-18 Pedipeds, and I assumed she was a size 4. (DD1's sz 4.5 Stride Rites are still quite big on her.) Do you think I will be safe with size 6 for next summer?

ourbabygirl

citymama: Yeah, it's really hard to say what size they'll be in by summer! I'm in MN so it definitely won't be warm enough to wear them until April at the earliest (with socks), but more like May or June.

DD and DS were born 2 days apart, but he has been much smaller than DD; her first pair of shoes when she started walking was size 12-18 month Pedipeds (when she was about 15 months old), but he started walking at 12 months and is only in 6-12 month Pedipeds (the inside of those say size 4-4.5). He's near growing them out, but is swimming in his size 5 Target Circo boots, but DD wore a size 5 Target boot all winter when she was his age.

I figure he can wear the size 6 Keens with socks & pants in the spring if he fits into them by then, otherwise they should work for this summer. I have no idea how fast his feet will grow- I tried buying clothes ahead for him but was off by about a season because he's so low on the growth charts.

Luckily they had tons of girly colors when I was looking today; the brown & navy infant/ toddler Keens that were my top choice were sold out in his size, so I got red- I figured that should work well enough. And I have some of the opaline green ones left in size 7 from DD two years ago (I ordered them in pink from REI during their anniversary sale but then found out we were having a boy, so they let me change to green for the same price ;)). Now I just hope they'll fit his feet fine width-wise. :)

OK, I bit the bullet and got DD1 the purple Zumas in a size 1 (she is currently in 13, and refuses to wear closed toe sandals, so this was the best option), and DD2 the pink Venice H2s in sz 6 (I think she is currently a 4). I paid just under $40 shipped, which is a great price for 2 pairs! Many thanks to the OP and everyone who posted with sizing advice. Now I'm just worried about the stink factor...
