I'm debating about whether or not I should buy the M&D pattern blocks that are 50% off on Amazon now. I think DD would really like them, but I also think the magnetic ones seem better/easier for her. But the magnetic ones have bad reviews about the colored paper peeling on the pieces. Anyone have them? What do you think?

We have the magnetic pattern pieces -- for 2 years come this Christmas and the colored paper has not peeled on them at all. We LOVE this toy. I can't imagine my son being good at the patterns at all if they were not magnetic to keep them in place once placed.

You've convinced me! I'm going to keep an eye out for a deal on the magnetic set. Thanks.

We have the regular ones, and they really can be frustrating (even for older kids) because the slightest little bump of the hand messes up the whole picture. If I had to do it over again, I would go magnetic.

Didn't know magnetic options were even available. I had put the regular set on my daughter's Xmas list and it looks like someone already purchased them. The magnetic M&D ones get really bad reviews on amazon. If I were able to change my choice I think I might look at these (http://www.amazon.com/MindWare-44204W-Imaginets/dp/B0037Z8DEK) instead. They are twice the price but the reviews are much better (looks like $21 is the low price from Amazon).

That one looks great, but it's different than the M&D set because the cards are small and are meant to be copied, as opposed to putting the pieces on top. I think that's too hard for my DD at this point.

What about these?

Both Mighty Mind and Imaginets has the same problem (I WANTED Imaginets for my son this year and had Mighty Mind magnets in the gift box -- still do if someone wants to pay shipping to try them. I won't give them to my kid) -- considered it an upgrade from the M&D Magnetic shape toy we have and have loved for the last two years.

The M&D pieces, the magnets are the piece, basically. Not sure if it is incorporated in the piece or the entire piece is the magnet. But for both Imaginets and Mighty Mind, the magnets are just stuck onto the piece. In my Mighty Mind set, they had ALL come off. Sure, it was used. But if they were ALL off that means they don't stick that well and some are really tiny. Not something I want in the house with an infant. Period. I asked about Imaginets and it is the same.

I have heard of this problem with Mighty Mind. Another mother/friend superglued the magnet to the shape to ensure they didn't come off.

I've got no clue if this is what you are talking about, but is this it.??

If so, these sound cool, and I'd like to buy one for my DD.

THANKS!

Yes, those are the non-magnetic ones. The issue with those is that it can be frustrating because if you accidentally bump one piece, thay all shift and everything has to be readjusted. The magnetic ones stay in place.
