View Full Version : Stupid question, but... which toy car for 18 month old?

DD2 is crazy about things that go. Assuming she has a clue what we are talking about, she wants a toy car from Santa. When we go to a toy store, the cars and trains are what she makes a beeline for. So, I'd like to get her one that fits into her stocking. We have a large Plan toys wooden car and a plastic recycling truck that she plays with a lot. I'd like something smaller, but I worry that the metal ones she plays with at the toy store are too flimsy/have small parts, and that the paint on the metal may chip off and be unsafe. So, what would you recommend for that age (18 months)?

ETA Something like this, but a car version would be nice: http://www.amazon.com/Kidoozie-G02217-Little-Tuffies-Trucks/dp/B000FJ2HDE/ref=sr_1_5?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1323762195&sr=1-5

Those are the exact cars I was going to recommend. DS has them and loves them. They are just the right size and roll well on the kitchen floor. The other ones he likes are the Ikea automoblox knock-offs.

My DD has this: http://www.amazon.com/Playskool-Tonka-Cushy-Cruisin-School/dp/B001TQNHJA/ref=sr_1_10?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1323782007&sr=1-10 and loves it. It is kind of smooshy so she can't get hurt on it. She races it and can sit on it (FYI - I did not pay $43 for it though! I think I spent $20 for it), but it is larger. If you are looking for something smaller, what about one of the Little People cars? My DD has this: http://www.amazon.com/Little-People-Maggie-Yellow-School/dp/B000R9THD0/ref=sr_1_4?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1323782094&sr=1-4 which is not very large and gets a lot of play.

Thanks all. I'll look for the Little People ones, I think. Has anyone seen this Green Toys racecar IRL?

I saw it at Pottery Barn Kids and almost bought it. We have the fire truck and dump truck and they get constant play. I'm hoping Amazon will slash their price on the recycling truck and the new school bus.

My DS has a ton of these and plays with them constantly:

I usually get them at Target for around $2.50. Great fit right in his hands, he carries one around a lot. For Christmas we bought him the huge ramp for them.

ETA: Fixed link.

ETA: Sorry, couldn't get the link to work. I'm sure you can copy and paste.

Yes, I figured it out! Thanks - I'll look for these at Target!

Yes, I bought the race car/flatbed truck set for a 1 year old recently. It is super cute and well-made!
