What's the deal with these - one reviewer said they're not warm(?!), and someone said they are very narrow. Hmmmmm.... Anyone have any experience with Sorels?

I wanted the Kamik Scarlet when they were on sale for $65 a day or so ago, and DH didn't buy even though I told him to (grrrr...) and these look pretty similar!

Thanks op! I bought the sorel tofino's in the red color. $76 seems to be a really good price for sorel boots-- at least from my limited search (zappos lists them at $140). Keeping my fingers crossed they will work-- I ordered up 1/2 a size as per review on Zappos. These are supposably lighter in weight than other sorel boots, which is nice. I'm a little nervous about the red color, but like the idea of something non-black (as its much easier to get black boots than boots with color).

Also, bTW, this sale appears to be on many boots-- not just the sorel tofino's listed here. There appears to be a 25% off $75 of certain items offer that is being used to give this price.

Thanks for the feedback!

Based on the Zappos reviews I want to order a 1/2 size up. Except this makes the price go from $101 to $139.95 (before discount). :irked: Thanks for that, Amazon.

Sigh, maybe not ordering.

ETA: And the 7.5 is not eligible for the add 25% off, they are not sold by Amazon but some other place. Double :irked: .

I think it's only certain size/color combos that are sold by Amazon that get the add'l 25% off. If you change the size/colors you can see the pricing/seller change.

Thanks - I've been clicking around but looks like anything close to my size is full price! Probably just as well - not like I *need* another pair of boots :-)

So I received the size 9. Length is fine but they feel snug around my foot. Ordered the 9.5s to compare.

Do Sorels normally stretch after use?

I have the Joan of Arctics (trying to get rid of them, actually, don't need them here!). They did not stretch at all, but actually they ran huge so I am surprised yours are a little small.

I also ordered the tofinos, but ordered up a size. I read the reviews at Zappos where they said they ran quite small- and to order up at least one size. In contrast, the reviews for the joan of arc's said they did not run small and even ran a little big.

No- I just checked. The deal is still there! The price that shows up is around $100, but when you put it in your cart you will see a 25% discount-- and price is then around $76-$86. If you look on the page of the sorell tofino shoe, you will see this info in the "special offers" section of the page.

Sorels and Kamiks are both Canadian in origin. Sorel used to be made in Kitchener/Waterloo, ON (though they're named after Sorel, Quebec) but they were bought out by Columbia a few years back and are now trying to be "fashion" boots. Kamiks are still made here in QC. They're both known to be very, very warm. As in, DH used to wear his Sorels when he was working in the bush and sitting on drills in Labrador and the Yukon during the winter (he was a geologist). Based on my own experience (mine were bought pre-buyout) Sorels run big. I don't have Kamiks myself but DS does and they're THE brand at the daycare. They're slightly less pricey. I have to wonder if when the fashion quotient went up with the Sorel buyout the quality went down a bit? Mine are totally fugly but good to -40.

ETA: neither Kamik or Sorel stretch. They're kind of like LLB duck boots in that they're rubber on the bottom (in most of the styles).

The other two big Canadian boot brands are Pajar and La Canadienne, both also based in Montreal. Pajar is a mix of warmth and function as well as fashion, and La Canadienne is a fashion brand.

This is what stops me from ordering shoes from Amazon, too, except the Lightening deal was too good to pass up. It looks like for shoes its $3.99 base price to return plus $0.99 per item, so $5 to return 1pr, $6 to return 2prs, etc. Endless is also free shipping/free returns but the prices on Amazon was so much better during the deal it was worth risking the return cost.

I did look up their exchange policy and while it was not clear, it kind of made it seem like they will do a free exchange as long as the price of the new item is the same as the old item, but since the Lightening deal was temporary and the price has gone back up it would not give me an option to exchange so I decided to just keep my boots.

I suppose that it really depends on why you're wearing them, but here they're seen as the last resort in warmth. So by default you're wearing them with socks. They just happen to look cuter now than they did 10 years ago. FTR I usually wear SmartWool socks in the winter which are fairly thin, yet warm, rather than a heavy wool/cashmere/fleece sock. It makes quite a difference in the fit.

Yeah, if I lived in OK, I probably wouldn't invest in Patagonia/Sorel/Keen/La Canadienne either. But here in Chicago, warm fashion is key. For example, last year the median December high was 19. But inside my feet stay toasty warm in my Haflinger clogs (which were more than my Sorel boots).

Yeah, half of the time I am still wearing sandals in November. I spent around $10 on Land's End boots for the kids last year and they got worn maybe once, thus the boot sticker shock!

I bought Sorel boots this year too. My goal is to cut waaaay down on whining about the cold. ;) I have Cate the Greats (http://www.backcountry.com/sorel-cate-the-great-boot-womens), and they're very warm and comfy. you can buy thick leggings at american apparel. they are called "winter leggings"

another option is lululemon for wonder unders. they are not as thick as AA, but they also don't fade in the wash and they fit AMAZING.

i recently got these sorels. they are super cute, the kiltie is removable and they are lighter than other sorrels. the foot is narrower

They do look similar. Looks like Joan of Arctic has more colors. Maybe also warmer? It says "Keeps feet warm in temperatures down to 25 degrees below zero," while there is such statement for the Tofinos. Dunno.

Had both to try on. I thought the Tofino would be best for looking cute in a fashion sense. I have seen them worn around town without a lick of snow. The Joans would look dumb here without snow. Of course I kept the Joans and it hasn't snowed. DH told me to keep both but I couldn't justify it. Actually thinking of reordering the Tofino. I got my Joans at a good price though.

I actually like the fact that the Tofinos are not as bulky or heavy. I wore them recently on a 30ish degree day and my feet were toasty but not too warm. A close friend has the Joans and she says she cannot wear them unless it's under 20 because they are so warm - so that might be another difference. Here is how mine look.
