Do you live by an IKEA? i think that's your best bet if you are trying to get the best value for your money before christmas... their fabric food is adorable, affordable and comes with a good selection of things. it's also safe for pretty much all ages (but still cute enough for older kids) their pots/pans , dishes and glasses are awesome too- and all completely food safe.

i *heart* play food-- it's near an obsession for me. as a result my kid has a little of EVERYTHING. happy shopping to you!

Costco had the three piece set with breakfast lunch and dinner for $20. You might want to check if they have any left

I think this set looks great. I almost got it, but I have a couple cutting boards and bread/sandwich food already from a couple M&D sets. Might be worth it anyway for the plates, utensils, and breakfast items. Very cute.

Make sure you use BBB's ubiquitous 20% off coupon.

I've checked out the ikea food many a time, along with their pots and pans. They are adorable and very affordable.

I also say a melissa and doug play food cutting set at HomeGoods last week - not sure if you have one near you. IIRC it was about $12.

These are a favorite around here.

Thanks for all your suggestions! I was hoping to avoid Costco until after Christmas but hope one more trip there will get me some food! I am so jealous of all of you near an IKEA. I think I would have the whole little toy section for my kids!

This is a nice set, DC have played with it at friends. This is the best price according to CCC.

My only advice is to not overdo it when it comes to play food. We got our toy kitchen when child was 1 1/2 years old, and now at almost 4 years he is still playing with the kitchen daily. BUT 90% of the food is almost never touched! It is just a huge mess in containers by the kitchen. He gets the most out of any cool pots and pans (steel-appearing ones are a big hit) and other gadgets (like a toy mixer). He just pretends that all kinds of items are food (legos, etc) - despite having probably one hundred little food items (or at least it feels that way). We initially loved the melissa and doug cutting food items -- but he ends up cutting them, and then eventually it became too much of a pain for us to always put them back together to cut again. But those sets are cute, and I got them last year for about $10 each at this time of the year.
