Window coverings that lower from the top ?

What window coverings are available that can open from the top or the bottom? I want to order from one the many websites that sell custom window coverings. I know cellular/honeybom blinds can open from the top, but wondered about all the other options (some of which I don't even understand):

roman shades
roller shades (I assume not)
shadings (I don't understand these)
pleated shades

We went to Home Depot and asked a bunch of questions from the salesperson there, and we got to try out different styles. Believe me, honeycomb shades are not my favorite look, but it got us the top-down option and light-blocking option we wanted for Boo's room. They are very neutral and look fine.

We have cellular blinds that have top down. I've had a lot of luck ordering from blinds.com and their site has good info on features available. They even rate blind types on kid-durability.
