So I haven't been able to wear earrings in years. I had heard so many things about Simply Whispers so I asked DH to get me some. I put them on this morning and I just took them off. Historically, my ears start throbbing and itching immediately and I have to admit it didn't start as soon this time. But they are definitely burning now and throbbing even now that they are off.

My question is: do I try again? power through? use some hydrocortizone or something and try to wear them for longer? or am I just out of luck?

And my other question: they offer a guarantee...can I really send them back for a refund if I can't wear them?

Really bummed if this doesn't work...I miss wearing jewelry!

My mom's allergies to metals got worse as she got older. If your ears are burning now, I think you'll have to send them back. I've heard that if you try to continue wearing them, your allergy could get much worse- life threatening even.

If I were you, I'd see an allergist for allergy testing. Find out which metal is causing you this problem. Then, if you want earrings that dont' bother you, I think you'll have to go to a jeweler to make sure you get a certified PURE metal earring in a metal you aren't sensitive to. So many metals are a mix of different metals I dont' think you can be really sure til you have a jeweler test them or certify them.

I guess you can be grateful that the Simply Whisper earrings are guaranteeed. Not sure that is much of a silver lining though (no pun intended ;) ).

I'm in your boat...can't wear any earrings. Don't 'power through' it, it doesn't do a lick of good. I have yet to try titanium which I hear can be something we (with metal allergies) can wear. Of course there are always plastic earrings but I'm not going there.

I've ordered from SW before but never had to return (they were for dd1).

I have to get some titanium earrings. Off to search.

Ugh. So bummed. I don't think an allergist is in the cards. I have more pressing medical issues to address. I'm also not convinced it is a true allergy at all, I'm wondering if it is contact dermatitis. I can't wear rings either.

Yes, I remember that thread now. I haven't even seen plastic earrings, are they super ugly?:rotflmao:Is that a dumb question? Let me know if you find some titanium ones.

I think I am going to ask my insurance company about the MELISA test. http://www.melisa.org/why-melisa.php
and I'll try a pair from Blomdahl.

Ok, I saw that first link a long time ago and couldn't find it again. That looks great. I guess whenever I get motivated I should try her method.
