Looking for advice or opinions on color schemes. DH is repainting the living room off-white and we just bought a set of beige furniture. I'm in charge of curtains and a rug.

Right now, our living room is painted a very light green with formal, custom maroon curtains and dark leather furniture.

I was thinking of bringing in color with pillows but didn't know if I should stick to neutrals in the rug and curtains? Or bring some color in with one or the other? Or both? Any particular links for examples?

My house is older so I definitely stay away from modern. My living room is actually quite similar to this one (same fireplace and shelves but my shelves are dark wood).

That picture was exactly my inspiration for my hearth room (was in the PB catalog actually).

This is what we ended up with

I think the only thing that is tricky with beige/neutrals is making sure they work together. Beige and tans can have pink undertones, green undertones, etc. and sometimes you can only see those undertones when you put two "beiges" next to one another and they don't "go" well together.

I like tone on tone/monochromatic and I like color. I think it depends on what you are going for. I think monochromatic sometimes looks better w/ nicer architecture but it sounds like you might have that. With monochromatic, I think lots of texture looks nice (like a seagrass rug or something if you want a neutral rug).

this woman is a color consultant (and a little opinionated ;) ) but she has a few things up about beige and undertones. Something to think about if you layer a lot of neutrals in one room.
